Well, I was "hopeless" Anyway, thanks guys for the advice to me. Someday I will install my 3ds Max 2012. I just left it zipped because I'm still not using it (that I'm using Sketchup)

Your model is not bad, just build it like in real life: all separated parts must be a component or at least a group so they don't interfere with each others.

Incidentally, if you want to apply the same material to all backs then replace the text back_material=nil with back_material="MAT", where MAT is the name of that material inside "". So for example, if you wanted all selected faces' backs to be 'invisible' you make a material using a fully transparent PNG as the texture and 100% transparency, use that as the backs' material and you can see through walls/ceiling etc when outside !

No problem. If you need to post something larger than the limit, you can always zip it.

thankyou TIG/mitcorb, I turned all layers on and unhid all then zoomed to extents. I had a left behind a line at the original coordinates about 7000km away from the origin. I investigated one of my previous models that had the same issue and it was the same thing (a hidden component that I found in the outliner). Once I'd dealt with those, all was good. Thanks! Mick

As long as all the students' various sections are all related to each other by means of a common reference point (preferably located at the origin) you should be able to import/reload them as Gaius suggests...or even open each individual one to check it over, then select and copy it. Then Paste in Place in the master model file. That common reference point can be created by starting with a single, coherent base model, as Gaius suggests or, if you really want to test their accuracy, by getting them to model their sections from scratch, located by careful trigonometry.

Wow, that is awesome. Thank you for your efforts. They are much appreciated. I was trying to figure out if the edges were hidden, and I tried to figure out how to unhide, but I didn't start by turning on hidden geometry. Plus, I wasn't sure if that was the problem, so I cut short my efforts in that direction. Thanks again, Richard

I'd give component spray a whirl. It is fast and polite. Try it with a simple 3d tick of the same cross dims as your balls, then redefine the component as you wish if it works out. [image: 0VbU_SPRAYBALL.JPG]

Ok, attached is the scene. I had to remake it quickly because i trashed the other one. I added a pre-made Sketchup person component to the scene thinking that maybe it was my custom people and trees causing the issue, but the even the Sketchup component wouldn't receive shadows until I exploded it (which isn't an option for me). Thanks for help. RC Shadow.Test.skp

If your pdf is vector based and you've imported it into Corel you ought to be able to do a deal of pre-processing there to make it SU-friendly. This includes converting any bezier curves into straight line segments. Use the Add Nodes facility to get an acceptable number of segments on each curve, before converting to straight line. When you're done, export it as an early version dwg...like R14, or even R11. This ought to ensure that any overlooked beziers get converted to straight lines too, rather than simply vanishing. Then import into SU. I wouldn't recomend actually using the import as part of your mesh, but you will be able to inference off it very nicely. Pre-processing the beziers ensures that you end up with an sensible number of segments on each curve. You could simply export the whole thing as an early version dwg...but then each curve would contain 1000s of tiny segments instead of maybe a dozen or so.

[image: EWm6_tent2.png] You might also approach creating the canopy over the frame in a slightly different way. Instead of thinking about how to drape the large rectangle you have over the frame, draw the end and extrude it with Push/Pull. Then delete the bottom edges if you wish. You can get the area of the sections with the Text tool or from Entity Info. I kept it simple for getting the area since you wanted it down and dirty. There's probably a plugin that would give you the total area but I don't remember for sure and haven't searched yet. [image: GwP1_tent.png]

@Aerilius: thank you very much for pointing out as everything is crystal clear now. I will keep on previewing my models in GE for Windows until they decide to fix the issue (To a mod: please consider closing the topic, and thanks again for helping )
