it's a dynamic component. (notice the green squares/triangle icon next to the model name) go: Window --> component options to see what parameters are available.. you might be able to get something better than scaling this way. (I can't check it.. on a phone) otherwise, you'll have to either explode it (and any nested dynamic components) then regroup it or you can edit the parameters of the DC via window--> component attributes

If you already have a face shape that's part of something else... select the face and Edit>Copy. Now edit another component/group [make it if you need to] and Edit>PasteInPlace the face is duplicated inside this other 'container'. Now you can push pull it in that edit as desired and it's separate from the original geometry. If you want yo 'remove' the original face from its original context and put it inside a component/group you can select it and make the component/group from it and a 'hole' will be left in the original geometry. You can also use Edit>Cut + Edit>PasteInPlace on a face [do not select its edges as that might affect other geometry unexpectedly] to 'move' it into a new container, rather than replicate it...

The latest build(s) of SU 8 are "large address aware" but still 32 bit which means that now they can acces RAM "up to" 4 Gb on a 64 bit system - but no more. You can get the latest release here: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=43176

@judgedrey said: Anyways, thanks again for all your help! It's so very much appreciated! I hope I don't become a pain in the butt on the boards with all the questions and such. I try to search as much as possible for some answers before posting new threads, but sometimes, I can't help but ask, you know? Thanks again! That's how forum answers get here - people ask. So don't hesitate. As for the imagery - yes, I know how it is. Ours here is over 5 years old, too (good that this economic crisis hit as there are much less constructions this way)

That's a good method. I used something similar when I did an animation of a sewing machine making a lock stitch. This is the first frame: [image: 7155097606_c0c1cc4f05.jpg] And part of it when you zoom in and use Perspective mode. [image: 7155097396_7060a07715.jpg] Everything but the tensioning knob is drawn flat but they are at different distances from the camera so some things are partially hidden behind others.

Thank both of you, The plugin is now a choice in my "File" dropdown in Sketchup. I should have been able to have worked thru that one, but sometimes those types of file management problems buffalo me. Thanks again. Walt.

I have made a few tests where I gradually use the 'outer shell' command to combine chunks of cubes, it works better but the weird 'artifacts' are much higher this way (see new attachment) and I don't think it's a good way to do it :-S [image: AbWL_outhershell2.jpg]

I see that from time to time when I'm working on imported geometry - it appear to be some small inaccuracy issue which compound eventually to problematic inaccuracy.

Hi! I don't have AutoCAD, but i tested exporting files from Blender and importing them to SketchUp: 48 sides circle: .stl comes out as 24s, but Collada .dae comes out with 48 sides ! [image: o6mn_circleColladaDaeFromBlender.png]

Another method would be to get a seamless tile pattern off the Net (or use the one I got in the attached file...or even one of those supplied with the program). import it into your model...size doesn't matter. Then on the Edit tab in the Materials browser, scale it to the correct size. This one happens to be 8 tiles square, so I scaled it 8'x8'...a little more if you want to allow for grout. An applied pattern will automatically align itself with the origin, but you can get the whole tiles to align along any wall you want by right clicking the surface and choosing Texture > Position from the context menu. This will enable you to drag the entire floor pattern in any direction you choose. floor.skp [image: heuw_floor_thumb.jpg]

Thomthom's Selection Toys (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=14975) is indispensable for this. It's a one-click operation and one of my essential plugins. When you have a renderer which renders instanced components, using 3d trees becomes feasible, as long as you use some form of proxy object in SU to make performance acceptable. There are many 3d tree applications, and to the best of my knowledge, none of them have instanced leaf components when imported into SU. Sometimes you can use plugins to regularise these things. Thom also has a plugin called Component Comparison (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=30143), which might also help with components which aren't quite identical.

No, you can't extrude into a curve like that. Your best bet would be to take the single side that you have successfuly extruded, make it a group, then get rid of everything else. You then need to duplicate that group around all the other sides of the cube...even though the extrusions will overlap. Then, explode all those groups, select all the geometry and from the r-click menu, intersect it with itself. You are then faced with a lovely little clean-up job, deleting all the faces you don't want.

I've the same problem here, and try everything... I'll say only that being unable to have a vectorial dxf in houars and getting a 5200pixels' jpg in 5 second means only one thing: something is messed up with the exporter.
