    Thanks John, that helped - looks like Sketchup doesn't really do it too well, but through searching I found the 'watermark' function which at least lets me print my contact info on a drawing. Thanks again.

    I've seen a similar report. It emanates from the way it was installed initially. Try uninstalling, then freshly reinstalling v2015. This time do NOT double-click the icon for the installer's exe file - even if you have 'admin-powers' - instead you should select its icon > context-menu > 'Run as Admin...' That way it's installed proeprly. Another thing to do is after it's installed find the SketchUp.exe file in the Program Files, SketchUp folder and context-menu > Compatibility > 'Always run this program as an administrator' should always be ticked [you'll need 'admin-powers' to do that] PS: Please update your User Info to suit the version you end up using...

    Well, if you are patient enough, it finally worked. I think it is just the size of the model that made it run so long. I found the offending part and am in the process of fixing it..........

    Beside all the hints and tools I would recommend the freeware Greenshot. Greenshot has some useful drawing tools, can highlight or pixelize areas etc. I use it almost every day... In addition to some standard formats, you can save your screenshot in a certain Greenshot-format, if you want to continue editing later. http://getgreenshot.org/de/

    Sorry I can't be more help with the ArchiCAD to SU transfer but I do have a solution to my original post. It turns out you have to save down to SketchUp 7. We figured this out a couple weeks ago but thought I'd share and put a bookend on this one. Thanks for everyone's input.

    You are right about trying to use it on Linux. I will be loading a Win Os within the next few days. Sketchup will probably be the only reason I install Windows. For now I will try to uninstall it on linux and reinstall later. BTW is that a Tasmanian Tiger??? Thanks for your help! Rich

    I use a lot of textures and the model flies well. You can reduce texture size whenever you need/want, it's harder to increase it though...

    Is this because you are using Preview as the texture editor? I use GIMP--maybe this works with Yosemite? Albeit I am not using Yosemite.

    Thank you, JQL. after checking the object carefully, I realized that there was another object/colored layer on top of it. After deleting it, the shadows appeared as they should.

    The 2D image export in Skup (Win) is always related to your used width-height ratio of your SkUp viewport - yes, this is very annoying. I also have this problem very often when colleagues work with my files. If you render with any external renderer or any render plugin that all doesn´t matter since you're free to set your desired certain aspect ratio. For exporting single images within SketchUp Pro (Win) you can use the Animation Export. There you are free to set your aspect ratio, regardless of your current Skup viewport sice. Within the animation export you choose export "image series" (I don´t know the English naming here) instead of choosing export "animation"... (Unfortunately, this export function does not have the possibility to control antialiasing) I hope this evasion helps...
