@pbacot said: Not sure what using the eyedropper has to do with this process--you can just choose the material from the browser right there. It's a quick way of showing someone the very basics of how materials can be sampled from one face and placed on another, and in the process show the material in the 'in model' section of the browser. If he knew that he could choose from the browser to begin with he wouldn't have needed to ask.

So you want to get a child group out of a parent group? Have you tried opening the parent group and using Edit>Cut to remove it? Then close the parent group and choose either Edit>Paste or Edit>Paste in place to put the child group out on its own. [image: a8sU_Screenshot-8_1_20154_09_33PM.jpg] [image: dEQ6_Screenshot-8_1_20154_10_04PM.jpg] You could also just select the child group in Outliner and drag it out of the parent group.

In the early days of SketchUp, before there were any renderers at all, one method I used for depicting a more ambient light in an interior was to go to the Shadows control (now part of the trays setup) and reverse the position of the sliders. Move the Light one way down and the Dark one up. As long as you don't slide them clear to the end (which is effectively the same as turning shadows off) you'll still have shadows, but they'll be far more muted.

Personally, I just explode and regroup anything that I need to un-dynamicise, but I believe there's a script hanging around somewhere, possibly by TIG? edit: here it is http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15%26amp;t=40538 , but the iterative version (that kills more than one nested component) is broken, so you might have to beg TIG for a fix

Here's our (current) workflow for drawing plans... I say that as we have changed our workflow several times over the years since using SU and LO for all our CDs. As a general note - we have used Buildedge for a while now to quickly draw walls and openings until we have a completed schematic model at which point we "commit" the model and work w basic SU functionality. Buildedge is super fast at quickly drawing walls, openings, floors and roofs and is very versatile for plan modifications. Once the plans is solid, we commit the Buildedge model to SU. As far as getting your model onto paper space... We tried Michael Brightman's workflow for a while w good success, our main issue with it was that you are constantly clicking inside multiple containers (groups) to modify things. We then switched to our own layer structure w simple layer grouping and Skalp as the main source for creating section fills. This also works great with one drawback... If you use SU models in the field on iPads as we do, the plan fills and sections now don't work because you used a plugin to create them - I'd say if you don't have that need, go that route. We now use Nick Sonders process w our own layer structure and it seems to work best for our case.

There has been an update to SketchUp v2015 so you should install the newest version, which fixes a few issues [note that this update is at no cost]. With SketchUp v2015 Pro the same license-code will now work on both PC or MAC. So in theory if you also install SketchUp v2015 Pro on a MAC you can activate it with the same license code you already have. If the two computers are on the same network, then only probably only one version SketchUp will get licensed at a a time - the license-checker spotting if that license is already used on the network and then preventing a duplicated use...

Good insights pcmoor, I've been waiting on the new release to deal with this for many years so I'm not holding my breath. I just forked out for the full version of SpaceDesign and am happy with it. I'm pretty sure that if one were to spend a few days with VBA, Sketchup's classifier and Sketchup's "Generate Report" one could create a workflow that meets basic needs (as kaas points out) but buying the solution is so much easier.

on a mac the SU material folders can only go 'one' level deep... [image: vxsV_2015-08-1112.48.04pm.png] renaming each folder with the Product name helps find what you need in SU... but you do get a long dropdown menu... @mozzie said: Thanks Kaas. That was a big help and I'm back in operation. So I was mistaken. Juju - I had already read that post, but it covered mostly 3D Warehouse. For me, losing GE imagery is less easily worked around. So. sorry if I wasted your time - occasionally we all need a little redirection. FWIW, the link Juju gave has the link Kaas gave.

this has been covered before, I wish the admins would make a sticky of it... http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15%26amp;t=62489 The main reason, as I understand it, for this is because Trimble acquired Sketchup from Google, part of the deal was support from Google for a limited time for features introduced under their ownership. Since Google Earth is not a Trimble product further development and linking to the brand doesn't work. That period has passed and, as such, so is the linked functionality. Have you tried Google Earth Pro (it's free now, by the way) to see if you can get the info you normally imported automatically? Hopefully you don't use MS XP anymore, MS stopped support for it, that doesn't mean that MS is a bad company, just that it is a legacy software that doesn't warrant support any longer.
