Weird. Maybe a repair installation of SU2015? New computers can come with out of date drivers so it might be worth checking for new graphics drivers. Is it 64-bit or 32-bit SketchUp. Shouldn't matter but those things that should aren't panning out. Slow down on the beer before the eyballs fall out.

@ciacnorris said: Hi guys, I encountered another problem on my 3D works: I got a shell-similar 3D object (its shape is similar to an half-sphere), and I need to select all external faces. Is there a faster way than doing it manually? I mean something like select all faces whose normals are directed outside the sphere volume. Any suggestions? Thanks! mod = Sketchup.active_model ent = mod.entities sel = mod.selection bb=Geom;;BoundingBox.new faces=sel.grep(Sketchup;;Face) faces.each {|f| bb.add f.bounds} ctr=bb.center; sel.clear for f in faces sel.add f if ctr.vector_to(f.bounds.center).angle_between(f.normal)<90.degrees; end [image: WM50_SelectbyNormal.gif]

Hi All, Well, I bought SketchUp Mobile Viewer for Android. It works well. Some options are still missing, but layers are correctly displayed, and it's easy to navigate. Local files can be viewed, no connection needed. Some wishes : Dynamic components aren't recognized. Animations (auto rotation etc...) would be usefull. MALAISE

@sketch3d.de said: @juju said: If you bought SU Pro 2015 before 30/07/2015 you could have had it as the old price, new price is quite a bit higher (US $700 now). owning a SU v8 Pro license already an upgrade (plus reinstatement fee) is sufficent, no need to buy a new full license. @krisidious said: @unknownuser said: *Please note, there's a $60 Enrollment fee if upgrading a SketchUp Pro 8 or older license, or if your Maintenance and Support has lapsed more than 30 days. If I skip upgrading between versions and upgrade to 2015 instead, will I have to purchase a brand new, full price license? No. If you skip upgrading for one year, you would pay an upgrade cost of $120 for single-user license or $200 per seat for network license, plus a enrollment fee of $60. The total cost will be $180 and $260 respectively if upgrading after skipping the upgrade for one year or more. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000020 aaah, great, thanks for clearing that up

Thanks for the "use a 2d program" tips. Helpful. Parallel projection and standard views don't seem to help. Here's an example. I'm laying out a picnic setting. Ground area done. Tree in the middle done. Table built. Trying to move the table towards the tree. Top view. I can select and move the table, but Sketchup assumes I wish to raise it off the ground and connect it to a branch of the tree. I have NO wish to move it towards me (away from the ground) or away from me (towards the centre of the earth), I just want to move it north, south, east or west, so I can position it, rotate the model, look at it from different angles, move it again etc. I could hide the tree, but then I can't see the tree. This would be SO EASY if Sketchup could limit itself to working in the only two dimensions I can work in!

I think Dave Richards will know of some good videos on moving objects. Basically you want to move it by grabbing at a sensible location. Go to move your component--say a chair and put the cursor so it snaps to a vertex at the bottom of the leg. Then when you move to the floor look to see the clue "On face" then you know you when you click to let go of the chair the point you started the move with will end up touching the face of the floor. That's basically it grab things (usually components or groups) at the point which you want to touch or align to other objects. The rotate tool is pretty straight forward. You need to learn to get the different orientations. The basics are orientation to the model xyz directions. If you hover the tool over the ground that will give you the orientation of Blue protractor. Then press "shift" key to keep that orientation. Move to the logical point of rotation (hopefully on a an object or the ground, but not required) and rotate your (pre-selected) object. There are many features to getting the orientations but that's the main idea. Many videos at the SketchUp Trimble website for the basic tools. Also Aidan Chopras videos on Utube. Here's one from a search, but I think it's a little old. The info right but there are probably better videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e095bSztLs

Hi Gary Thanks for your help. I've found a solution. Please just play with the file. Explanation: 2Theta is changed into a sub component of Theta, then I considered Theta component as parent...then I can click on cristals to change the position, while the goniometer is turning.Sub DC 2 component.skp Have a look on the drafty modification. Cheers Pierre

I'm not knowledgeable enough with Ruby to know whether this can be scripted or not but I guess this would be the place to start: http://www.sketchup.com/intl/en/developer/docs/tutorial_attrreporting

Well, sometimes things can solve themselves.... Last night my laptop did a major Windows update, and lo and behold today I have been working with sketchup and it's running just fine. Even rendering works without glitches and bugsplash. Sorry to bother in this matter. Laptop is a Lenovo G50, came with a 1 TB HDD, 16 GB ram, I7 dual core 3.5Ghz processor

We have started a workflow like that and we only have 3 to 4 main components in the model But they have smaller units within them. It may be matter of sequencing of the updates when we move to constuction details which break down the models into scenes. Thanks

The good part is that website has images with the chair from several angles. This will be extremely helpful. What I suggest is to use Artisan for this job. You can do a very simple proxy, low poly, few segments and then subdivide the parts in order to get the smooth appearance. Just be careful to have the subdivisions as even as possible (don't use very elongated triangles or quads if possible) and you will notice there are several "good techniques" in order to get what you want with artisan. Part science, part art. Look to other artisan models here on the forum. Good luck.
