Thanks for the input. By the way, how can I get rid of the Google Earth terrain? I can turn off the visibility of it, but I'm unable to select and delete it. The building models were done individually, and georeferenced. The whole model was put together from those individual models. I'm actually using a version with even more stuff in it than the one I linked. Anyway, any input on how to solve the clipping effects? Might the random triangles somehow be related to the z fighting (wouldn't it be y fighting ??) in the google earth terrain.

To use simple scaling to taper something like a column, you can pushpull a cylinder as in the first example tut, then select the top circle, scale it by pulling a corner handle WHILE you are holding down the Ctrl-key, this is so the centre-point becomes the scaling origin, then pull it in a little inwards, THEN type 0.5 in the VCB to make the original 800mm into 400mm [OR type 400mm - note units suffix]... The two tuts below and this scaling way are all pretty easy and straightforward...

As for Google Earth and SU (hope this isn't too off topic), the Kmz and Collada SU exports make this easy. Commercially though, providing a Google Earth building modelling service is tricky. There are 2 significant obstacles that I hope Google will eventually address; Most clients wants to see their properties appear instantaneously and permanently on Google Earth, the 3d warehouse route does not guarantee this, if your model is approved, it can take months to show up on GE and then it is only in "the best of 3d warehouse" layer, it may never appear in the default building layer. Google want quality but surely the easy way to get quality is to make the modelling service commercially viable. Second Life, Twinity, Virtual Earth allow instant upload. 2.Google Earths policy on what is classed as unacceptable advertising is unclear. I cannot find out if it is acceptable for a 3d building to have a corporate logo on the side of it.

Thanks Greyhead and Gaeius for the tips. the simple copy and 'paste in place method' worked like a charm.

OK now I understand I think. How about going to (Window) > Model info > Dimensions and editing the font size there? Dimension and text label features are ruled model level and you cannot "scale" them...

Al, Thanks for the info. I agree with item C. As well as the thought behind using Adobe. The file size limit kinda scares me, but at this point it's only 7 meg, so not sure what will happen by the time I'm finished? Oh, just thought of a way to get the file size down, delete the countour lines, as all I need is the topo (I'll rename the file just in case). I think I'm going to try the trial version and inform my client about these issues and let them see a sample. The other option is for static images with mouse over "zoom" for some key features of the site. Thanks again to everyone for the help. Glenn update: purging the contour lines cut 3mg off the file size. I have some 2d property & road lines to purge after I'm finished with the drape. So, the 3d pdf is looking viable again.

I remember riding my motorcycle from home to watch the first British prototype land at it's test airfield at the end of it's maiden flight from Filton (Bristol) where it was built. I also worked with a guy who was on flight testing. He had a wealth of stories about being on Concorde flying around the world!
