    I am doing something similar.

Please, sketchup team, let the items dragging from the Scrapbook KEEP THEIR LAYER. It is really labor and time wasting every time I have to choose a layer before or after I drag something from the Scrapbook.

Thanks for the tips. That was the issue I was concerned about, dark textures and colors being printed. Even on small SD sets the "rehatching" of revisions is just a ridiculous method of working.

I'll just stick with textures in SU.

One option might be to use a B&W lined texture in your model! Just flip the coloured texture out with the lined texture and flip it back in for other shots. I know it's a workaround but certainly a quick one!

Just make sure both textures match in scale and proportion.

    Thanks for the reply,

    Ill try them out.

If anyone from the Layout team is listening, it would be nice to at lease create simple tables like the one above in the next versions.

Just have it in a right click menu would be a solution I think.

All sorted now, Italic Tahoma is not available in Layout!!

More accurately, Tahoma doesn't have an italics version. There are only two versions of Tahoma, regular and bold. LayOut doesn't fake italics like some other applications do.

Are there any performance benchmarks or file sizes that could ease my concerns?

Well, it's always wise to keep your file size at a minimum. Also reduce the number of entities displayed in the SketchUp file by assigning layers and turning off visibility of layers for things that aren't shown. For example, in your scenes of the bars from your model, there's really no need for the 2d people and the assembled cart to be shown. Assign layers to them and turn off those layers for the scenes. This helps to reduce the edges LO needs to iterate through when rendering. There are other things you can do to prevent file size bloat in SketchUp that are worthwhile too.

On the bright side, LO2016 is lightning fast with rendering compared with LO3 and earlier.

    Hi Stan-

Thanks for mentioning this issue - error 101 occurs when there's a LayOut group with only one entity in it. It's an internal sort of error that we don't really ever want to display to someone using LayOut. I will file a bug in our tracking system to investigate this issue.

If you find a way to consistently cause this error, please share the SketchUp model and your exact work steps with us so we can make sure that your particular case is handled by our fix.

    Thanks,
    Marc

LOWERING JPG COMPRESSION is applicable only to LO files containing stuff other than vector linework?

Those plants are just SketchUp components. You could make your own components and add them to the Scrapbook or you could do the same in LO.

You might try purging the associated SketchUp file of unneeded stuff and see if that reduces the size enough. Or you can upload it to DropBox and provide the link.

I checked. I have no problem copying and pasting a SU model reference to another page or another document.

I just did a copy and paste of a pdf as well! I have to research and see why I was not able before--or exactly what I was trying to do. Maybe it was due to an upgrade.

    Here's the issue, I think.

If you use leader text on a pdf image, the leader arrow points "stick" to the image so selecting all of it and moving is not a problem.

If you add a clipping mask to an image, and then the leader text, the leader arrow points will not "stick" to the image. They will stick to the page location. HOWEVER the way to move them is to move by dragging a leader when you select all of it and perform the move. All of the selected leader text will move as expected along with the image. This is true if you simply write leader text in empty space as well--it sticks to the page unless moved by the leader.

It seems these methods are a little inconsistent and, even if documented, not intuitive. Yet, given that the leader apparently MUST be "stuck" to something, this is one solution. I only wish that adding a clipping mask did not change the behavior.

    Thanks Dave,

Sorted, thank for talking me through it. A simple case of that little handle snap tool being in the right spot, now I can grip away. Amazing how the smallest thing can give you the biggest headache. πŸ‘ πŸ˜„
