      Hi,
I am new to Layout and I would like to setup some auto text for specific functions, I would like to have the "<PageNumber>" and add "of <TotalNumber > of pages" in the set so it up dates automatically also. Is this possible? So on my title block it would read "page 1 of 20"

Is there a list/document somewhere of text I can or cannot use in creating custom auto text other than the text that comes with the program?

There currently is no way to create custom auto text such as that. You can create custom field names but there's no way to link to the number of pages in the document. Basically you can see the auto text option under Document Setup>Auto Text.

          Thanks for the reply.
Maybe this is something that needs to be added to the wish list as well as being able to bringing in a excel file.

            Both have been.

FWIW, I regularly insert tables into LayOut but I convert them to RTF files first. I prefer the appearance better and I can still make edits as needed.
