Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hi Hoangduong, I'm frequently confronted to this problem when I use the stamp tool. For me, it happens when i have other objects near the surface I want to stamp and when my model become too large. To avoid this, there's a few solutions : Try to put all others objects in a turned off layer Take your surface and your building print out of your model, and do the stamp in a new file, and then copy it in your model (not always possible...) If you have an old version of Sketchup 5, save your file in the SU 5 format, do it under SU 5, and reopen it with SU6. It never crash on sketchup 5 for me. Hope it helps you.

Presto, by right clicking the png (or using the identy info pulldown menu) you can set the image not to cast shadows...so no bounding box shadow, but no shadow at all (ok sometimes).

so far as I know, setting a 2x or 4x antialias in the opengl preference dialog (if supported by your graphic card) doesn't affect your texture, but only the edges of your model. On my computer Sketchup doesn't apply any improvement to the texture antialiasing: many other programs, especially computer games, have this feature. The best workaround I know, if you need a static image, is to render it bigger (2x, 4x) and resample it with an image editor with a good resampling algorythm (bicubic, spline, ecc) like The Gimp or Photoshop. If you still want to avoid the moire effect inside Sketchup, another way is to edit your texture with an image editor and soften or soft blur it. If the texture is not so crisp, this will reduce the moire effect. Here some snapshots: [image: 5s1X_testnoantialias.jpg] [image: 7m67_testantialias.jpg] [image: btXR_testresampled.jpg]

@matteo said: never download the models of Max Grueter from the 3D warehouse! they kill your computer (I love the work of that guy and I'm wondering if he uses sketchup as modeller for his pieces) He uses Cinema4D for modeling his stuff. (he explained me by e-mail some time ago)

If you go over to smustard, theres a ruby script called makefaces. It will fill in all the faces on the file so you can push/pull them.

I thought all YouTubes were UK YouTubes? Shows how much I know. I don't think Google did announce they were available - or at least they haven't at any of the blogs that I frequent (yet): Here: http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/ and here: http://sketchupapi.blogspot.com/ Todd

Thanks Gaieus, This was posted on the SketchUp SDK Forum. I reposted it here and put a link in the SDK Forum to this SUC Forum thread - since I think he will get better responses to queries here.

Hi Walter, An important thing in SU is that after making a selection (the section plane in this case) you don't have to "grab" that for moving it but you can snap to any geometry anywhere in your model and tehn start your movement using other inference points. Important thing in this case MAY be to temporarily disable (toggle off) the section cut in order that you can snap to points you could otherwise not even see.

I think it is an accepted practice among renderers to adjust the shadows so they help present the design. That was the same for hand-constructed perspectives as it is today with computer-generated. The goal typically is to make the design look as perfect as possible. Your typical rendering isn't considered, at least by those making them, as a "shadow study". I think most people making renderings do not consider such idealizations to be unethical. (They would likely agree it is unethical to labelled the rendering "July 4th" if the shadows are based on March 2nd). Other rendering 'enhancements' relate to the reflectivity of the glass, not illustrating power poles, wires, garbage dumpsters, the reality of the huge parking lot, etc. Presenting a real shadow study at a public meeting can be the curse of death to almost any project. People live much of their lives in shadow without even realizing it or having any concern. Yet when they see an animated shadow study, of the kind you can do with a SketchUp model, they get very concerned. Overly concerned in my opinion. The shadow study is presenting information they aren't used to seeing and are unable to evaluate objectively. Neighbours arrive at the public meeting thinking they have to protect themselves from being affected by the proposed project. Seeing that a shadow may fall on the sidewalk in front of the building can be enough to trigger the "you see? It will impact on me - I walk there everyday" even though their own property development is doing exactly the same thing. Once they perceive "it affects me negatively" there is little hope that you can convince them to support the project as self-interest and resistance to change are powerful forces. Unfortunately, in the real world, protecting self-interest trumps fairness. Regards, Ross

Wow Alex, very clever. You know, I just bought a 10' USB cord for my mouse so I could sit back and walk my clients through a model allowing them to be closer to the screen. The Wiimote would have been much better for this and only about $8 more!

Why don't you use 3Ds MAX with Vray (I know it is expensive) via boot camp (I would prefer XP, not vista). You can model on SU then render on Max. You can control the environment a lot better than any program I guess. Alternatively C4D with Vray or Maya with V-ray can be used. On windows Rhino also have Vray. I have not used it before but some people say that Modo 302 native renderer is very good (3D painting is excellent by the way).

Dear Plot-Paris Is the attached what you need? I constructed the solid in the following way: Draw the inner arc with the required segment length. Offset the inner arc the required distance to give the outer arc. Use the extrude line tool to extrude the inner arc the required height. Explode the surface and extrude each face towards the outer arc, snapping to the line segments (mid-points) on the outer arc. Delete un-needed surfaces. Use the line tool fill in the shape. Delete all coplanar lines. Use the smooth tool to hide lines. Regards, Bob Matching up segments.skp

Thanks for your replies. the TaffGoch way worked. I created a composant with the object of interest, then to rotate it, I hit the "modify the composant option" and voila, it worked. Thanks to all again
