Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

If you export an object with ArchDesign or Vray materials as an FBX and import it into SU, does it maintain the textures? -Brodie

I really hate advertising my own topics/posts but have a look at this tutorial about texturing arches with ThomThom's new version of UV Toolkit. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34072 If your friend has already made that arch"ing" texture, how about posting the file here?

OK then, you have two choices. Wait till someone more knowledgeable at Kerky than me chimes in here - or go to the KT Forums and (hopefully) get a more prompt but even more importantly; precise answer there.

@krisidious said: it's always vector for me... dwg and for adobe that works well. Krisidious, I mostly export dwg as well. However, the quantity of entities KILLS me. The SketchUp drawing below has 49,595 entities. I believe this is because dwg does not support Bezier curves or ellipses. All arcs, ellipses, curves and many lines are broken into segments. That is, a simple circle (a single entity item in some vector drawing programs) breaks down to 24 entities in SketchUp. And, the quality of the dwg export is not really good - even for relatively simple objects. Many lines go missing, corners don't meet, etc. I've tested this in Corel Designer and Illustrator. If I have a choice, I bring 3D models into SolidWorks for export as dwg. The filters are fantastic and the results are nearly perfect. Other programs with similar results to what I get with SketchUp (high entity, bad quality vector export) include QuadriSpace, Right Hemisphere (Deep Exploration), and Adobe 3D. Hi, For what it's worth, number of years ago I saw at SIGGraph (possibly 2006, in Boston) a development from Caligary's trueSpace, a 3D modeler (http://www.caligari.com/), that allowed people to work synchronously and simultaneously yet remotely on models that lived in a shared 3D space, without recurring to any 'baton-passing'. This shared space was called truePlay and though it didn't have A/V/chat for communication, coordination and collaboration, I saw them using it with NetMeeting - http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news/articles/story_7710.html. Caligari was later bought by Microsoft and then... who knows but at the very least this proves a point, namely that co-working on a same file was and moreover should be today perfectly possible at least so, with the right tools and in an appropriate environment Cheers, . Diego .

SketchUp does not run in the cloud. The above example "Roozz" was scamware. It messed with the local install of SketchUp because it did install SketchUp locally into 'Program Files'. "Spoon" is at least as clever to install unobtrusively into '%USER%\Local Settings', but it doesn't succeed to display the application inside the browser (it's displayed in a normal window). Running a local app in a browser is really not the point of cloud computing (we do already run media plugins or pdf viewers in the browser; there exist plugins that can put any application inside firefox, also SketchUp). Those plugins Roozz/Spoon don't give platform-interoperability. In the best case, such a plugin would create a VCN connection to a computer/server that runs those applications on a real Windows/OS X. I think Google did good to remove SketchUp from Roozz (which is dangerous) and possibly the same for Spoon. On the other side, Google likes web applications and confirmed that they keep an eye on a future SketchUp Web App, when the technology is ready: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=39d42ddba38c76b3&hl=en

Two options: Apply the image as a texture to a continuous face. Make two similar components, each unique. Soften the edges and multicopy them to the model a specified spacing.

Today Chris - today! Plus it will make a lot of people happy and i bet it will be a very very popular plugin. . . .

Also a good idea is to try removing all other plugins and see if it is not a plugin conflict. There are a couple out there that will completely crash SU when combined with other plugins.... More specifically speaking, I had a VERY similar issue with another renderer - turned out it was a different plugin I had installed that would cause SU to crash when I tried to run the rendering program. So you might just remove all other plugins for a bit and see if that helps?

I prefer to think of Hiding components as a temporary thing. Layers were specifically implemented for controlling visibility and it is much easier to use them for that than hiding components with the hide tool. I'm sure you saw my examples of working with components hidden instead of having the layers turned off. I would find it a PIA if I was only hiding components instead of using layers. Besides, with hiding, you have no way to organize the model as you do with layers.

Thanks Guy's, But I'm aware of most of what you all are suggesting and have done what has been suggested but no luck. I know the problems but there are no easy solutions that I've found. Sketch up does not handle hatch well. The plan was done in autocad first. Correction for Terry - Autocad is the most used software amongst architectural firms here in the US interms of doing construction docs. Terry Dont get me wrong. Autocad is a necessary evil in my industry. Until we can find somethiing better or the majority of the industry dumps it we will have to use it in our workflow. I'm trying to stream line and take advatage of lines already drawn by someone else on acad. It would be perhaps best to re-texture the surface in sketchup to match the grid pattern in autocad. If someone has a better way let me know. I already know the problem which to this point I am not to convinced of a good solution. Ultimately the lines were to show up in a Kerkythea rendering using a wire porcederal shader. What was the method Ithil used to do his floor? I'm sure it was in a CAD program, no. The pattern I'm showing should be a piece of cake. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=32677&p=293887&hilit=Ithil#p293887 Thanks, Lapx

@jim said: ...has a nicer user interface... Well, at least simpler (with lots of easy to use presets) and easy to use, fast to set up... @jim said: Is it correct to say anything that can be done in Twilight can also be done in Kerkythea, but may be more work to get there? True. In fact, there are some features that are not present in Twilight but from Twilight, after setting everything up, you can easily export your model to Kerkythea and use those features there.

Thank you, Gaieus! That must be what I am missing. I looked at online help for this but I didn't see that. After using SU8 for a while I would have stumbled over it eventually, I guess.
