Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Using this in the Ruby Console UI.openURL("file:///#{Sketchup.find_support_file('Templates')}") opens your own user Templates folder. The 'shipped' Templates are in the .../SketchUp.../Resources/.../Templates folder...

Good try at it Box. Fell back to twisting with FredoScale cause my attempts twisting with Vertex Tools weren't working so well. Need to do a little more practice with Vertex Tools since it shouldn't mess up the mesh in the process.....

There are a number of lined textures available. I think the best way is to use some other vector drawing program and export as sharp a picture that you can with png or jpg format. You want a flat view of the texture. If you use SU you have to orient the view to the face and use parallel projection to get a straight-on view, then export at a graphic. Adjust the light and dark sliders in the shadow dialog to get the tone you want for the background (the faces). Using Sketchup doesn't seem the best way to get a texture pattern, in my opinion.

I can see partial automation but, for total automation, you might look at ValliArchitects Instant Roof.

I think if you are trying to duplicate what the Leica laser is doing, you would need to "replicate" what the laser does automatically. The laser must be "fixed" in place and "shoots" let's say target #1on a wall, then pivot the laser tool (vert/horiz/etc) and shoot target #2 on same wall. The laser takes both lengths recorded, and references the angle of pivot to report the "height" (if vert/assuming plumb wall) You could easily do this in sketchup using a fixed point/protractor/tape measure tool, but the distance from the wall and the elevation of the laser tool must be known. (Assuming you are trying to replicate laser info) You likely know all of the above and more, so I think to help answer your question more specifically, can you provide a simple example of what you are attempting? (Is this for something like photo match?) Best regards, Charlie

Differences between LayOut 3 and LayOut 2017? Wow! There's a lot of differences. Some of the most noticeable are: The ability to create tables directly in LO. Import XLS/XLSX spreadsheet files and retain a dynamic link form the original file. Similar to the link with inserted SketchUp files. Auto-text for things like page number, page name. Auto text in labels can display component definition names and/or description. Dimensions linked to the SketchUp file so changes to dimensions in the SketchUp model will be reflected in the dimensions displayed in LO. Smart handling of small dimensions. Arrows outside extension lines, text placed outside the extension lines when the text won't fit between. Automatic leader inserted. In general more stable and a whole lot faster rendering in Vector and Hybrid. There are other things as well. And in SketchUp there are many improvements over SU8.

Thank you TIG for taking the time and replying my question! And also BIG THANKS to you for all your plugins! I couldn't stand it anymore and so I decided to reinstall the whole damn windows 10 because my system showed all kind of funky behavior. I suspect there was something fishy going with visual C++. I don't know I am not that splendid computer expert. I have reinstalled SU and fredo scale and it's behaving nicely, let's see how long that will last. Have a good evening!

To match the images you show you need to either UV unwrap the mesh and texture paint. Or sculpt the mesh and bake the high poly to a lower poly mesh. Both non-novice topics and activities. For displacement to work properly in rendering you need tessellated surfaces and SketchUp isn't suited to too much tessellation. The most efficient way to do this is to trick the eye with texture detail rather than mesh detail.

@paul russam said: If you’re looking to have your models viewable on a web page then you might want to look at SketchFab, here’s a link to models I’ve uploaded https://sketchfab.com/dma-ni/models and here’s one in action on a page https://www.dma-ni.com/dma_projects/dma_view_proj/maghereagh-kilkerley-dundalk (click the ā€˜view in 3d’ button) Yes, I have some test models out there also. It is a good product but I am looking for a little more flexibility than what it does (at least currently). I have been testing SimLab Composer. I like it because of the following features: Allows me to host the pages on my own server (not tied to their portal) Allows me to add a fair amount of interactivity to the model and the web page: Animation of both scenes and geometry Links to display annotations (they call them message boxes), URLs, change object materials, and show/hide objects. These items can be achieved with both links within the model or via links on the web page itself. Pretty powerful stuff IMO.
