It's from before our time, sir. I'm hoping one of the old Brits will recognize it but maybe they won't, either.

Reminds me of the game F.E.A.R., I think your room might be cleaner, though.

The main idea is that the eye is drawn to the highest contrast points that help to distinguish the most important parts of the image. You could also replace the vignette with a drop shadow from a trees and also add some trees in the reflection to balance out the image.

You can go into architectural visualization. In any of the fields, developing your art technique and studying are key. But I think, like "CAD", 3D modeling is a tool for something bigger you will do. Maybe you will be a creative person like John Lasseter, or maybe you will be an architect or engineer. It has to be MORE than just doing the technical or fun stuff, or you may end up just a CAD jockey with wings. Find your passion to use your skills on. but...VERY cool work here. I look forward to seeing more! Thanks for posting! Peter

An update... I currently only have a netbook to do this little project on, and it takes forever to do the renders! This one ran for just under 24 hours. [image: Amia_TronCity5.jpg]

@trogluddite said: Though I'm new to SU, I have done a lot of photo comp'ing in the past. The key thing I learned is to analyse your source photo for perspective, lighting, and scale. In this respect, I would say that gistman's interpretation is the most convincing. There is a very definite horizon line in the photo where the sky and sea meet - the horizontals of the building should all converge to points along this line (extended beyond the picture edge if needs be). In a picture containing other buildings, you can find an imaginary 'horizon' by following the horizontal edges of a few different faces to find the line on which they would meet. The fact that the horizon is almost perfectly central in the photo, is usually a good sign that the camera is perfectly level - so your verticals ought to be pretty much straight up and down with no convergence. The detail in the grass in the foreground indicates that the camera is not particularly high up (unless it is very tall grass!) - probably about normal eye-height, so we should be able to see a fair amount of the underside of the roof (Assuming it is big enough to walk inside). For the lighting, the large tree is a very good guide. A significant amount of the right hand side is in shadow, so the light source is forward of the camera and to the left - If you imagine about 10 or 11 on a clock face, you shouldn't be too far out. Most of the top of the tree is lit, and the tree's shadow is pretty close underneath - so the sun is pretty high up too, maybe 60deg or more. Some very valuable tips there Steve!!!! It appears you guys are exporting nature SU with a photomatch background? Just on Photomatch, I hope in the future Photomatch allows the ability to fix the horizon line horizontal rather than try and tweak vanishing lines to get it right; afterall; not to many building are modeled / build on an incline....

Garteth, thank you. Pete, this PC is ancient and would take weeks for an animation; this week or next I will have a new one, if I can ever decide what specs to go for. Maybe I will even be able to use displacement!! johnsenior1973, thank you. Your spot on! I changed the name hoping someone would ask where's the Bull's tail. Here's a Street View grab of Haworth. Hope you are keeping your head above water. I just returned from Bangkok and Pattaya. Have been suffering from Jet lag for the last week. Can I ask what school you attended in Thailand. I created over 700 photos while I was there. My best friend from college days teaches design at King Mongkut's University - School of Architecture and design. It has to be well underwater by now. Okay, playing around in Lumion... This is the same building (not much has changed) but now I built some dozen of the other ones. [image: DTYb_trichora.jpg] Then an overview of the whole site (some material tweaking will still be needed here and there) [image: v9FC_wh.jpg] For the time being, not each is fully elaborate (I just had to render a big poster so shovelled all the models together). Not all the chapels we know of are in the image - only the ones that can be visited (there are some 10 more). Now I need to add the whole town (to the south) and we are ready.

Another beautiful boat. Thanks for showing the wire-frame. I love seeing the start to finish renderings. "All that reading on modeling"... What did you read? If I may, do you get on the water yourself? You seem to know so much about boats. Regards and thank you for the posts. It's always inspiring, though I can do nothing of this sort.

I agree with the others, great work! Post images here directly and you will get many more responses. Many people (myself included) won't always click on links to other websites without first seeing a sample of what they get to look at on the other site.
