Hi Aerilius, Indeed it is possible (just do not forget NOT to select to merge coplanar faces when combining faces). There is a topic somewhere (I thought in the Newbie dept but cannot find it there) which deals with exactly this way of combining the textures.

There are a couple of things you could do without a plugin, though. You could delete the entities in the first model (and purge the unused components) but leave the secens as they are. Save the results as a new file. Then copy the second model into this saved file. Presto! If both models share stuff like background or have common parts, you could associate a layer with "version 1" and another layer with "version 2" in the same SketchUp file. Leave the things that would show in both versions on a third layer or Layer 0. Then go to each of your existing scenes and swap version 1 for version 2. Create new scenes for the version 2 views. After you've completed that, you can reorganize the scenes so all the version 1 scenes are together and all hte version 2 scenes are together. Takes longer to write about than to do.

Sorry Jim, I am not sure who you are referring to, but this is what I had in mind. A possibility of exporting from SU to game engine could be interesting to some people, I guess. There are some other plugins that serve the same purpose of exporting levels/models from SketchUp into game engines like Unity, CryEngine and Source: http://www.playuptools.com/ http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SketchUp_Source_Tools

The file structure is messed up in the zip file. You want this folder: Flattery-1.0\Flattery\flattery and the flattery.rb file. And you can delete any .svn folder. There is a .svn folder in the final flattery folder. That's why you see those green and red circler revision icons. -Kwok

That's it, the group of the loop must be nested inside the terrain group. Thanks a million (One should ALWAYS carefuly read error messages, a mesh is not a group, hehe...)

Thanks for replying, --- I just found that info on the Sketching 3d blog and it loaded very nicely. I've not taken the time to investigate these ruby plug-ins and I'm making up for lost time. ----------lots of lost time doing manually what these scripts accomplish so smoothly.

Thanks Bob, but you can't paste into the VCB that I can tell.(?) Also Entity info box doesn't work with Tape Measure tool guides. I was guessing it would have to be done via ruby script, which is why I put the thread here and not in the general discussion area. I'm pretty sure the VCB is accessible via ruby, as someone made a calculator with it, I just don't know if you can glean and store a number and then reinsert it.

Hi TIG This is my vision I would calculate in a spreadsheet every part of a piece of furniture. E.g. a table can very easily be calculated with little parameters. THat is of course not every thnkable table in the world, but lets say a standart model with 4 legs, given height, given thickness of the table top, offset from legs to the edge of the table top and so forth. I entre the data in a sheet and calculate every measure of the given model. Then I generate a list with every piece and the data: Name, length, width, thickness, material, edging material, if needed, surface material, if needed, hardware. For cabinets, tables, benches, desks and such stuff this can quite easily be done. To import this to SU I also need to calculate the orientation ansd position of the piece inside a drawing. Generate a csv export file. Then import this data to SU and create one object for each set. When i create data before, it seems much easier to create a cutlist, and a calculation of the price, the material input and ...

TIG and Chris Thanks for the replys! I did not make myself very clear sorry. I have created a spread sheet that solves the problem for my use but did not put the logic for the five cases in it. I am not a ruby programmer and thought a plugin would be more useful for the number of folks who have posted this question in the past plus thinking this is a capability any 3d model program should have. Given the fact the ref URL has c, lisp, etc code examples I thought it may be easy to create a plugin. I'll leave it up to your expertise if that is a reasonable thing to do. If have found doing this manually and using the interpolation scheme Jeane Lemire ( I think ) gets problematic for this case because one winds up trying to interpolate in two dimensions. TIG: The five cases are from the ref and the only ones I can ID also. The range of solutions for solving the quadratic equation in the ref give you the info( sign and magnitude of u) to make a decision on where the line segment lies and if there are intersections and how many. One wants to keep the line segment for L1 the same and you can either rotate or do an x,y,z move of L1's vertex as I did in the skip. I tried solving the problem for rotation( theta and phi) using the standard form of the line in space( intersection of two planes ) I get a trig equation in two variables I cannot reduce by the standard approaches. Thanks again !!
