Hi, I am currently building some dynamic components, "pcmoor", for building construction. I too have been frustrated, however I believe the problem is in editing independent of the main model. For example before reusing a previous component to build the next, copy within a main model, then make all parts unique, use the outliner to select all the sub components at once, then make unique. thus any changes will not effect similar components. Then if you want too place into another file. One day someone needs to write a book....interested? cheers Philip

@tig said: Try running SketchUp as administrator [context-menu option on its selected icon]. This one off might then update the references/licensing etc ? Thanks TIG for the suggestion. Didn't work. I am going to follow Dave's advice and not worry about it. Thanks to all for your help. Close this please. Ken

Is there a bug report that addresses this? It's still a problem. Just try using the component for this item: Samsung 55" LED LCD 240Hz TV (UN55B8000) That " inch mark trips up the DC code. The temporary fix is to bring up that entity's info and remove the " character. That'll let the DC code continue.

Hi & thanks for your comments. I'm running SU8 on windows 7/64bit.Both the work file .skp & .skb backup sit on my local desktop. I copied them there to avoid the autosave over the server but the 0.skp swap files are still being tried to save on the server, e.g. material library. Whenever my PC is stuck in autosave back to server I cut the VPN, a 0.skp warning appears and save manually. Attached a screenshot of preferences > files. All linkes used to point to the server so I just changed models and export to the desktop - do you think that would help? [image: zAQr_preferences_files.PNG]

Hi, Does anyone have any further insights into this issue? I have encountered a very similar problem: Tooltips do not show when the toolbar is moved to the horizontal position (Mac OSX) This seems to be particular to Mac OSX, but it is happening in both SU7 & SU8. At first I noticed it for the toolbars of a plugin I am developing, but I also tested the Dynamic Components toolbar and the same thing happens. When the toolbar is moved to a horizontal position the tooltips stop appearing. If I move the toolbar back to vertical, then restart Sketchup, tooltips start appearing again. I've trashed the preferences files and still the same thing is happening. I've quarantined all my plugins and it still happens. Any ideas? This is really quite annoying as I want to be able to use tooltips for my plugin and horizontal toolbars are much more convenient. thanks Dave

"Known about this for ages"?? . Makes you wonder what they have been doing. There must be a hundreds od little crappy simple fixes they never bother to fix. And yes I say simple. You're not talking hundreds of hours SW time for some of thes things. Steve Jobs was correct. Google is (was) a lazy company.

The 3D Warehouse is still maintained by Google (I think). But in the past, those data did not use to be up to date either - just a rough estimate of the downloads and views.

I see. Thank you for opinions and suggestions. Actually, I have several Windows tweaker applications here. Three of them left. Those have that registry checking ability. CCleaner, Advanced System Care and TweakMe, which is do nothing but to use standard windows utility that usually hidden from common user. I always make backups too. Thanks again

Wow that's odd. It doesn't work like that on mine, so it isn't a typical behavior. I would guess this might be a windows malfunction? Or maybe a problem with the multiple monitors? I'll dig around and see if I can find anything on it.

I decided to try uploading my models through the "Share Model" option inside SketchUp and that seems to have worked. I still don't know what the problem was with the .kmz files and the Cedge error messages - but at least my models can be downloaded into SketchUp without errors now... here is the re-uploaded SpaceX Dragon... http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b8620dbc2412f040e8467026884ac180&ct=mdsa

Actually this check did find errors! I had run the test earlier just after opening the file and it didn't find anything but if I reproduce the error and then run the test then this is found: [image: 8p60_FixProblems.png] If I now try and reproduce the error it is gone so this fix did the trick. Wonder why it happened and what it means?? Thanks!

OK, I worked it out, I had unhidden everything, and obviously the outside lines in the components had been hidden, rather than 'alt' erased, so when I unhid all, they appeared. So problem solved.

@unknownuser said: using a line doesn't trigger the behavior.. using the rectangle tool does.. Maybe the tools, Arc and Rectangle, runs edge.find_faces on all connected edges instead of only on the newly added edges? Where the Line tool does it on all just the new edge. Just wildly guessing.

UPDATE: After the usual purging, check for un-needed hidden geometry, removal of lurking layers, etc the file size is basically unaffected by removal of half the geometry... ...but if one copies the remaining (that is, desired)geometry into a fresh, empty iteration of sketchup and saves -that-, one winds up with a properly-sized file interms of what's been cut (that is, a 64MB file rather than a 128MB file containing the identical geometry. Still, given that the fbx original was only 23MB to start with, the resulting 64MB file still seems excessively large (though at least it's now useful for something). Does anyone know if skp files are just always inherently larger than fbx files describing the same object?

Thanks for the replies. I just did a reinstall, and I don't think I have anything abnormal. Just a couple dozen plugins.
