    • Undesired Settings Saving Across Scenes

In SU8Pro - if I change a setting (shadows, or hidden geometry) in one scene, the changed setting ripples through -all- of the scenes, whether desired or not.

For example, if I want to hide one item in Scene 2 of 5, as soon as Scene 2 (and -only- Scene 2) is saved, the item is now hidden in -every- scene. Ditto style and shadow settings: it becomes impossible to have changes in style, shadow, hidden geometry etc from one scene to the next.

I figure that somewhere there is something like a save-current-changes-to-current-scene versus save-current-changes-to-all-scenes but I can't locate that on any of the menus and (surprise of surprises) the 'Help' index is of zero use, in tracking anything down.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing?

      Thanks in advance

    • RE: Invisible Text With Windows 8.1

...aaaaand as of turning the machine on this morning, the problem has resolved itself. White box, black text, all is well. No apparent connection to any intervention, on my part.

      I'll take it.

Yeah, no matter what theme I set, I still have the identical problem: white-on-white (or invisible) numbers to start, and barely-visible/unreadable white-on-yellow numerals when I type anything in. So I suppose that it's a sketchup rather than Windows 8.1 thing. Though I never saw this using SU under XP, and it sounds as though you have not seen this problem under 8.1...

...are you using sketchup 8 trouble-free under 8.1? Your info says 2014, perhaps that's what makes the difference.

    • RE: Invisible Text With Windows 8.1

      (1) The Text box starts out solid black

      (2) Select and move an object (for example) and the box turns solid white (possibly white text on a white field but it's impossible to tell)

      (3) When I begin to type in numbers the box turns yellow (and looking -very- closely it's just possible to make out white numerals against that yellow background).

numlock does not affect this one way or the other.

Rich, what color scheme are you using, under 8.1? Maybe I should try and see if setting the same scheme on my machine gets me the display colors I need.

      thanks!

    • Invisible Text With Windows 8.1

Well, -effectively- invisible, in the 'measurements' window at lower right.

Running Sketchup 8 using any of the schemes that shipped with Windows 8.1, I wind up with yellow text against a white background, which is basically illegible.

The 'Styles' menu does not appear to offer any settings to control the window background and text colors. Changing setting in Windows does not change what's displaying in SU, either.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with 8.1, and found a fix so as to make that text black-on-white (or any other legible color combination)?

      thanks!

    • RE: Problem File - 5.6MB But Super Slow to Scale

At this point it is Maya files imported to Rhino and then exported as skps

    • RE: Problem File - 5.6MB But Super Slow to Scale

In fact it turns out that the files are originating in Maya, and being exported to sketchup via the intermediary of Rhino.

The Rhino operator is adding a 100'x100' cube, and I'm scaling the geometry from that (ie making the cube 100' per side; it comes in at 100cm per side).

I'll try the DAE -> SU route and see if that works better than the Maya->Rhino->Sketchup one.

      Thanks!

The original geometry is created in Maya and exported to skp format.

I am not a Maya operator but the person doing the export indicated that she can't scale it in the Maya export.

      About 25'6" x 2'0" x 5" - I need to scale it up by a factor of approximately 30.5

It is geometry exported from Maya (nightmare time under the best of circumstances).

      91,734 Entities

      63,265 Edges

      28,469 Faces

One single texture (color only) applied throughout

Copying and pasting into a new sketchup window is taking so long that I will have to get back to you on how that works out.

      thanks!
