Do you have any plugins installed? Try removing all of them temporarily, see if that fixes. It sounds like the kind of thing a plugin could easily do.

Graphic card problem perhaps? Have you tried updating your drivers?

I get this once in awhile. The fix was to delete the Registry keys for all the toolbars. It results in having to reset the toolbars that I wanted displayed but it tok care of the problem.

and

should I run the .bat file?
