Are you opening the same 2015 file in all instances of SU “shutting down”.

Describe shutting down in more detail:
Does SU simply close without any message/error?
    Is there a bugsplat?
Does it freeze for a while and then close?
    Etc.Etc.

Have you tried turning off auto-save?

The more detailed info you provide....the better the help you will receive.

So this only just started happening a few days ago? But not before? SketchUp 2014 wouldn't have suddenly changed so you need to look at what on your computer has changed.

Thank you a TONfor your help. As you can see below I have a couple of questions.
This all started when I updated the drivers.

    SketchUp uses OpenGL.
I'd expect your Graphics Card to have > v3.?
    OpenGL v4.5

Ensure that its drivers are up to date,
    Version 391.35 is the latest

and it is enabled for SketchUp etc...
Do you mean that Trimble SketchUp is in the Manage 3d Settings list?

Use your NVIDIA Control Panel and set it to 'Let the 3d application decide'...
Let the 3d application decide what? OpenGL? Hardware Acceleration?

    SketchUp should auto-configure itself...
    %(#FF0000)[Good 😎]

    Under its 'Manage 3d Settings'...
    == Trimble SketchUp
Either accept all of the default settings, or consider removing it from the list if it's still being awkward...
This has all of the default settings since I did not go into NVidia Control Panel/3D Settings/Manage 3D Settings to change any of the 21 settings

Your are perhaps confusing 'vertex' and 'point'.
An edge has a start vertex and an end vertex.
This vertex can belong to more edges depending on the 3d geometry, and context arrangements.
A vertex has a 'position' which is represented by a 'point' in space.

In newer SketchUp versions an Entity has a persistent_id.
    A 'vertex' is an Entity.

If you move a vertex in space its 'position', and therefore its 'point', can change, but its persistent_id remains intact.

If you have two edges sharing a vertex, then that vertex is a single entity, and has one persistent_id.
But if you subsequently separate the two edges into different contexts - e.g. one is now moved inside a group - those two edges have been changed and each now has a separate vertex where they shared one, the vertex that stays in the original context might be expected to keep the persistent_id, but the one that is now inside the group's context is in effect a new vertex and gets its own unique persistent_id.

If SketchUp did not do this, then chaos would result with persistent_id's !

You can track your edges by persistent_id as these move en mass into any new context - with their vertices can get recreated when shared ones get split-off in this way.
Use a persistent_id for each edge and reference its start/end vertices etc...
The edge will keep its persistent_id, but some vertices might not...

Very likely this is due to incorrect installation. On Windows, correct installation of SketchUp involves right clicking on the installer EXE and selecting Run as administrator. Did you do that? If not or you aren't sure, do it now.

If you don't use Run as administrator from the context menu during installation, you can get all sorts of strange results. Note: simply being logged in as administrator is not the same thing.

Is it possible there's a bad component? Possibly something you got from the 3D Warehouse? I've seen some cases where a component that came from the 3D Warehouse caused LO to crash. Most of those events were on Mac but there were a couple of cases where it was happening on Windows. Might be worth a look.

Your dropbox files are gone, so I can't comment on them. Did you submit the BugSplats having filled in the fields for info about yourself? If so, someone at Trimble will take a look and let you know if this is a known bug or, for example, an issue with some extension. Be patient - they get enough splat reports that sometimes a reply takes a while.

So, I suddenly found a lot of things to read once I knew what to look for,
tried to revert to status before last windows update. Message appeared on screen after a good 30 minutes saying something in the line of "Couldn´t find files needed to perform the task"
"Abort?" After confirming, the system rebooted. Sketchup is back to its normal behavior again. I guess this is the new "Normal"... Thanks for the help anyway.

On the rare occasions that logging out and in doesn't fix it.
Go to the Extension Warehouse in a browser and download the offending plugins and manually install them with the Extension Manager.
If after doing all that they don't update properly in the future there must be some clash with your Internet connection.

Yeah, ok, it does have it's quirks. But not as bad as having to hunt them down individually like before.

I know that this is from earlier in the year, but I had the exact same problem and it is definitely a 'Driver Issue!' The machine had been inherited from someone else who had 'Played' with the Display Settings. It was very annoying, and almost impossible to detect the cause of the problem. Many suggested an 'Incompatible Video Card' and Insufficient Memory, etc. However, the problem was quite fundamental, and easily fixed.

In my case the Drivers were up-to-date however, the machine had been configured to use a 16 Bit Colour Configuration on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit Machine! - This will give rise to 'Screen Bugs' such as the 'Grey Box' on Label Text. It will also create Large Blocks of 'Emptyness' when exporting an image from SketchUP to JPEG.

To correct the problem, carry out the following. Download the Latest Drivers for your Video Card. This can appear quite daunting, as in my case the Download was 380 MB and the Install Process quite ponderous! However, it is worthwhile doing, as many 'Bugs' and Technical Issues have been overcome.

Once the Drivers have been updated go to Control Panel> Video Card Configuration> Manage 3D Programme Settings> Programme Settings> ADD> If SketchUP is not on the list of Programmes, then it needs to be added - Go to ADD and you will select SketchUP.EXE by following the Path in Programme Files.

ALTERNATIVELY Some Video Cards will have their own Separate Programme accessed from Desktop> Windows Button> All Programmes

Next 'Quit' from the Video Card Configuration and go to Control Panel> Display> Screen Resolution> Monitor> Colours Be sure to select a 32 Bit Configuration! Apply the settings and 'Quit' from the Control Panel.

Reboot your Machine. When you open SketchUP on the Default Drawing, go to Window> Preferences> Open GL> and Tick the Hardware Acceleration and Fast Response Boxes. Now try applying Label Text to the SketchUP Drawing Character (Bryce or Lizanne) - The 'Grey Box' should be gone!

    NOTE
Video Card Configuration> This will be the name of the Video Card Manufacturer (In my case NVIDIA)

Answering my own problem here. It seems that Sketchucation tools is the culprit. I transferred the version I was using with SU 2016 and used it alongside the plugins that the Trimble extension manager had installed. Having removed the SU Tools extension, memory requirements dropped dramatically to something reasonable.

Doing a bit of research, I found SU tools v. 3.1.3 but could not get them to install in SU2017 Pro 17.3.116 - I unzipped the rbz and put them in the plugins folder then relaunched SO but to no avail.

It seems that Trimble are determined that one should use their extensions manager.

    FYI:
After my network re-config. I tried to reinstall and authorize SU.
    It kept saying invalid licence.

    Finally got this from Trimble:

"The user might be having an issue with the formatting in their email program (like outlook) changing the dash to a "bash" which looks the same, (my emphasis,) but SketchUp doesn't recognize it. Try typing it in vs copy/paste. Also, try pasting the whole license into the Advanced window."

Might have saved me a few hours of frustration if this info was to appear on the licensing t/shoot page
