At the time that I did the model, I think all of my groups/components were screwed.
Whups, you said skewed. Yes, this is possible. But at that time, I was not sufficiently knowledgeable about groups and components, let alone layers.
Actually, the building was rather simple. Of course the roof planes were sloped, but no other real complications.

don't know if this belongs here, but since i use su7 i have a crashing prog time and again - it has nothing to do with extremely complicated or large files. it happens when using different tools or not using anything at all, even when closing a file. i reinstalled su7 but the problem is not solved - bug splashes all over, which i never had in su6.
    any ideas, someone?

Usually this issue can be traced on the graphic drivers not supporting OpenGL correctly.

The issue is that video cards and their drivers sometime do not handle correctly all the OpenGL instructions, and that is why you see this kind of selection issues.

Unfortunately on the SketchUp side we cannot do much to fix this, the only solution is to pressure video card owners to fix their video drivers. As Gaeius pointed out, this problem is increased by the fact that video cards and drivers are replaced constantly by manifacturers.

It is always recommended to have the most up to date drivers, and a video card that supports OpenGL 1.5 or higher.

And you can look here for more detailed recommendations.

A little while ago I had the same problem, and went for a shower. Point was.. it wasn't that big of an operation. SU5 did it without even twitching, while 7 wasn't finished with when coming back half an hour later. And as said, it was a pretty straightforward oparation: half a cylinder IwM to a flat surface.

It seems that for now, the problem has been solved: apparently an update was all it took to iron it out. Thanks anyway guys ๐Ÿ˜„

The drawing window losing its focus on multiple undos has been a long-standing SU feature/bug - I have got so used to it that I cannot remember if version 3 already had it...

This won't help, but you arn't alone. We have Sketchup7 installed on about 80 PC's in some of our computer labs and they all crash if you try and access the 3D Warehouse.

Other PC's in differnt labs are fine, other people connected to the same netwokr through a laptop are fine. We're stuck as to the reason why - we can only assume it's a hardware or a network conflict somewhere.

We can only get Sketchup to work if we deactivate 'use hardware acceleration' in the OpenGL Toolbox, but this has had no effect on the 3D Warehouse.

I had problems with the latest nVidia drivers for the Quadro FX3500 card at work. I could only have one OpenGL application open at a time. Any more and they would start complaining about lack of video memory ir start acting odd. Reverting back a couple of version sorted it out.

    Thanks for the input Remus.

An update - I uninstalled SU7 and that solved some of the weird problems I was having between SU and Hypershot (images opening in HyperShot that looked like something from a bad move about LSD). So I'm back to work but I still have the strange file saving issue.

I've attached a screenshot of the folder hierarchy but I've never done that before so I don't know if it will show up correctly on the forum.

This shot is after working with a drawing called SpiralSU6Classic. All of the numbered files 0 through 9 are the automatic saves during my most recent period of working on the drawing. And two other things to notice - there's 2 files called SpiralSU6Classic and there are no backup files.

Doubt I'll ever solve this one but thought I'd send off an update anyways.

    Thanks again

Okay, so what I found out (at least that's how it works for me) is:

If I create the group after adding the guide to it, everything works fine (see Group and Guide1 in the example file)
If I rotate the group (with the inside guide included), the outside guide line will be drawn by the exact double value of rotation as I rotated the group - see G2 in the file where I rotated the group by 30 degrees around the red axis but the secondary guide is "rotated" at 60 degrees (measured to the green axis; see from the side). If I only group the rectangle and the guide AFTER rotating them first, the secondary guide is drawn parallel again.

Ah. That's good info. I couldn't work out what determined the direction of the mis-aliged guide. Hopefully this should be enough info for the SU team to terminate this bug.

...what's the most reliable channel to report a bug?
(which SU had a bugtraker system)

Even at the risk of making SU more complex I would vote for some new Preferences or even per-component options on this. For instance, on a DC brick wall, the texture ought to stay the same scale however the component is scaled.

On the same note, I just discovered that a glitch in older versions has been repaired in SU 7. If you make a recessed window in a brick wall in version 6 and turn that into a (hole-cutting) component, the brick texture in the recess sides is rotated 90 degrees, and you have to open the component and rotate the textures back. Now in v7 keeps the general orientation intact ๐Ÿ‘

    Hello,

This definitely sounds like a video card (or rather driver) issue.

First go to Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings and disable (uncheck) Hardware accelertion. If it seems to fix the problem, don't be happy yet as if you work with HW acceleration off, SU may become slower with bigger models as well as some plugins (like LightUp for instance) won't work.

You will need to make sure to update your video driver. Hopefully you don't have an "integrated video chipset" in your laptop - as they don't seem to fully support OpenGL - but unfortunately many "mediocre" laptop builds come with them nowadays (typically Intel motherboards tend to have these...).
