Mine crashed as well, tried copying it into a new file and that crashed it as well.

p.s. those lights arent particularly well modelled (or theyve gone a bit weird on import), you might be better of modelling them yourself.

    Hello,

I haven't determined if its a file size or poly count problem.

My file that is having a problem is:
    Size: 43 MB
    Edges: 1,508,474
    Faces: 51,451

I'm going to try a 3DS export to C:\ and see if that changes anything.

LOL... of course 2 minutes after posting this topic I found a solution. This neat little Windows app lets you resize or move any window by holding down Alt and right-click or left-click respectively. I got my edge back! 😄

Makes sense, what version of OpenGL did SU6 support? But guess that's not the point so it doesn't matter.

The offending computer is at another physical site. I will post the info you requested later, but any speculation on why inserting certain components (see initial post) corrects the system's video display?

    Hi Larry,

Had you had any similar crash before you moved your component libraries? "As if..." I'd read about some similar crash with Mac & the Component browser but I cannot recall where.

Also, I'll move your post to the Bug reports subforum...

Yea, this model could be SU4 or SU5 originally. The one I opened was SU6. Problem is, resaving doesn't work. The bug follows the model. But I need to use that model.

I got around it though by making a script that found the missing materials, and made fresh new copies of the materials, then iterate over the model and replace the old buggy materials with the new ones. That preserves the UV mapping that was done.

I guess this is one of the one timers kind-of bug.

I did have problems with the same model earlier. Due to the network paths. But only when I had V-Ray installed. V-Ray would try to access the original bitmap, but the path doesn't exist any more. So everything I did anything in SU, it'd freeze for 30secs. I sorted it by writing a script that'd export all textures of networked materials and reload them from a local path. Though, at that time I didn't notice I was missing some textures.

weird stuff. and I'm stuck with this model. ghnngh

I used to work for the Windows Firewall team in my previous job. I guess I had an advantage on this one, it sounded very familiar to me. 😉

    I am glad it worked.

Just FYI for anyone that might come across this thread. As a workaround you can download a plugin here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=14684&p=111254

    Hi All,
the help center language bug should be fixed for the maintenance release which will be released hopefully soon.

The Generate report 404 error, is something I am pushing hard to be in that release as well, and we might have a temporary fix even before then.

    Thomthom asked:
"But what happens when a user often change between being connected and not connected to the internet? A laptop user that moves around often for instance. When you are connected you get one type of report which is different from when you're offline and there doesn't seem to be any indicator to why, leading to potential confusion."
This is an excellent question. The two reports are at this point in time identical so there should be no confusion, if we decide to add functionality to the online one, we will have to make clear to users why the Generate Reports might appear different. And which one they are currently using.

Thanks for all your feedback, and rest assured I am working on this and I hope we will have a solution soon.
    Simone.

    Hi Greg,

This seems to be some video card / driver related thing. Can you try to disable hardware acceleration at Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings?

If it "seems" to fix the issue, you should make sure that your card is fully OpenGL compliant and has the latest driver.

What video card do you actually have?

Ah, I indeed looked at your profile when answering 😄sometimes when I click on the SU window,it sys "not responding" or omething (and its icon goes away) but it's still working.

    @gus r said:

This is the same as when I export a jpg (it looks like it crashed but it hasn't).

Well, what I noticed with SU 7 particular that its image export is much faster. Before, with SU 6 I wasn't even able to export anything at max (9999 pixel) size and with SU 7, a 9999 pixel wide png and 9600 pixel wide tiff (!) exported in just about 2 minutes.

Indeed the FM tool (as well as intersect) has issues with creating faces whose edges are about 1mm or 1/16". It used to have this problem in V 5 and 6 as well.

The general workaround is to temporarily scale everything up (say by 10), do the FM then scale back.

OK, not sure what I did. However, I have been trying to learn how to make DC components.

Sketchup was shutting down every time I tried to scale the Google fence DC component, and I thought because I had some how changed the formula in the picket section this was causing the problem. However I now see that was not the case.

I went to purge all components in the model. Sketchup flashed an on screen error message and shut down. The message was to fast these old eyes, so I don’t know what the error was.

So I started Sketchup again and while I was working I was using a components directory call rigging, and when I wanted to go to another component directory I notice that all of my components directories, even the directory called rigging had been erases on the hard drive. The component directory was empty.

Note, using Vista, which I do not trust. I have back up on back up.

However, I could still get the recent component directory open, and pick a rigging components. Now, where are they being stored?

Sketchup was now stopping when I did any scaling on any rigging component. So I did a repair install.

But still having the problem of Sketchup shutting down. Can’t seem to be able to get rid of the recent directory of rigging components. They don’t show up in the Sketchup 7 directory. Found out that Ver 7 was using Ver 6’s rigging component directory. Renamed the directory and it stopped showing up in recent used section.

So now, everytime I purge Sang, Sketchup stops.

Also, I don’t remember that the component directory had to get online to Google to down load the basic set of components. As I remember, once they were downloaded, they stayed on your computer. Not now, I have to down load again and again the basic components from Google.

I pass this along, because if you don’t have your components backed up, they may disappear.

If I can’t get this resolved soon I will need to go back to Ver 6 to finish this project.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Ken
