You can use the photomatch function for this (model attached), but if you have some dimensions, you might be faster drawing them from scratch with the basic SketchUp tools... [image: WYWC_photomatch_theProduct.jpg] photomatch_TheProduct.zip

So why not use Work plane by Tig ? Or draw the rectangle above and in side view Move at the level you yant? or use Drop Vertices by Tig ? Or Raytracer by Thomthom [image: G2jq_drop.gif] Or this one? By Tak2hata @unknownuser said: throw object until they collide with another plane http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPFLouVxVes

@gaieus said: Yes, this is a good idea - maybe that's the problem. You can also right click > Unglue if this is the case. This issue was driving me crazy! Thanks for the tip... 5 years ago! For Italian users, the "unglue" option in the popup menu is named "scollega". The more complex procedure described here is translated into italian below: "Open the Component Browser and select the Model tab [small-house icon] and then highlight the Component in question. Select the Edit tab. Under the 'Glue to:' list change it's setting to suit - perhaps to 'Any' in your case, as you want it to 'glue' to any face ?"

From Aidan's tutorials from some years back : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzOSwaUp_gc No, this was not the video but it was interesting. I liked the thought of the Jigs. If you do something like that on a regular basis it was a good idea.

@ driven Visualizer looks quick, simple and...now free. Will check LightUp too, and thanks for the clear and concise advice, much appreciated. Also, I sounds like we have to buy SU Pro - if nothing else, on moral grounds. But at least, it now seems like SU Pro + a plugin / render package is the way to go. Thanks for your help. @driven said: on a mac... Visualizer for quick and simple... LightUp for well priced in SU render package... Buy SU pro, as soon as you are charging for it... you could test your renders by reworking old projects in SU and ask the former clients if they like the improvements... john

@box said: Make sure you are deleting the correct ones and that you don't have a second plugin folder. The default location for SU2014 is C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins Box, thank you. I didn't think to look in C:\Users\. I had only looked in the place where I installed the program and deleted the plugin, but it kept reappearing.

@box said: By Solid selection fence I mean the difference between selecting from left to right and right to left. Have a look at this gif and notice the dotted selection fence and the solid selection fence and what they select. Left to right creates a solid framed box which selects everything entirely within that box. Right to left is a dotted line box that selects everything it touches. So in the earlier selection I when left to right and stayed above the back edge line so it selected the whole top. I'm afraid it's not off to bed yet, there is pub time to deal with. In all the time playing with SU I've never realised the selection 'fence' does that! Very useful to know thanks.

Ok, people. I just figured it out. Instead of using SketchUp, I will go for LayOut (part of SketchUp) and there it is possible to change the thickness of the individual lines. Anyway, thanks!

First, if it bug splats, send the error report, and ideally open a support ticket including a file with the problem so they can take a look. This is the way that bugs (eventually) get fixed, though obviously that's not going to help you in the short term. I have no idea what the actual problem is, but here are some vague things that may help you: Reboot your PC. It works more often than it should. Play around with your SketchUp preferences, there might be something in there causing a problem. Download and run CCleaner, it will wipe your caches, that might help if you're lucky. Reinstall SketchUp. Check your hardware, there are various utilities online for different components. It's unlikely, but faulty hardware is a possible cause.

What rendering program are you using? Can you post a sample SKP file that exhibits this? Maybe a screen shot of the SketchUp model? A screen shot of the rendered image? Give us something useful. Help us help you.

You need the pro version of SketchUp to edit Dynamic Components. They probably have the component set up so you can only choose the standard sizes the manufacturer offers. Perhaps it is setup to be modified from a list in the DC's Component Options window.

@pbacot said: P.S. I cannot understand why people work white on white style. I always find it hard to see what I am doing in 3d! And are you working in parallel projection? I also find that awkward. . Good luck. I really appreciate your response. I went back and read some more tutorials and now I understand what you were telling me. I rebuilt the door completely and just added to my model and all worked well. Still need a little more practice to make sure I do right first tine. Yes, I always work on white style. Given the modeling I do (build car was parts and layouts - not the bulding) this works the best for me as everything has to be given to the potential customer in a PDF file. Yes, I always work in parallel projection. This seems to work the best for me given the work I normally do. I only use the perspective mode when I generate movies that take you through the car wash. The parallel mode is also used to create 2D DWG files that are then pasted into the final building drawings. Again, thanks for looking at this and pointing me in the right direction.

Hi I'm currently using Lenovo Y-50 gaming laptop to draw acad 13 and sketchup 15. I thought that laptop can render fast with vray. But it didn't work well. Whenever I insert components in my projects, it becomes slower and appears 'not responding' on the top of my drawing. I don't recommand to buy lenovo. Asus is better performance.
