While it is possible to rotate the unfolded segment of your apply around and you should learn to use the Rotate tool so you can do that, it would be easier to set up your model to make it easier when you get to that stage. First, fix the axes. You've got them balled up. Right click on the origin and choose Reset. I then moved your apple to be centered over the origin and rotated the hole thing about the center (origin) so a side crosses the green axis and another crosses the red. [image: lNIi_Screenshot-6_1_20156_10_17PM.png] Then I selected one segment of the apple and copied it to the right. Notice I copied the segment that crosses the green axis. For this example I made another copy to unfold although I wouldn't do that for myself. That unfolded version is sloped up at an angle matching the top inside face (next to the core) For the third, rotated copy, I selected all of the flattened geometry, got the Rotate Tool and rotated it down to parallel with the green axis. To get the orientation of the Rotate Tool to be correct, I positioned the cursor on the horizontal edge at the near end of the shape, clicked and held the left mouse button and dragged the cursor along the edge a bit. Then I released and ran the Rotate tool as normal. [image: GFv5_applefinal.png]

I think you'd be smart to start with something considerably more simple than this anchor and learn the basic tools such as Follow Me. You need to have these fundamentals down so you can actually understand what it is that you're doing when you work on this model. The profile is the shape you'll extrude along a path with the Follow Me tool. [image: RL37_Screenshot-6_1_20155_55_55PM.png]

You're absolutely right... I don't really know where I got off the rails there. it's like I never even finished reading his post. And you're correct that quads would not be needed for his purposes. In fact I would not even go so far as to call that truly "game ready". I guess we're just in between the two. Most renderers have come past the back faces issues. The only thing I can suggest for them from your side is that you make efficient models. the number of polys you needs and not too many more. textures that are sufficient for use and distance. That should cover your bases.

or use a texture on a simple plane... but that's not an answer to your original question.

No. This is not a bug. As Massimo alludes, 3D Text is created as a component with gluing. To move it in the third axis (in and out as you're looking at the text) you need to remove the gluing characteristic.

Yep, the Warehouse can be a valuable resource but you need to be discerning about the models you get from there. You will find some good content and some that needs a lot of help. For the kinds of components I might find useful to get from the warehouse, my overall experience is that it's easier to make my own than fix what someone else did.

If you really "just" upgrade (as you describe), your preferences and user data should stay untouched, even Windows has become capable of this nowadays. If you instead prefer to wipe all and fresh install, it is indeed needed to backup and restore all data you want to retain. Note that beta software is by definition unfinished, and third-party support (graphic drivers) may not be available or not in usual quality. Beta software is not intended for normal end users. In any case, having backups is save: Make sure you save the SketchUp installer that you want (only the current versions are downloadable at any time). Backup your SketchUp user data (plugins, components etc.): %(#000000)[%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\SketchUp] (In older versions this is in the program folder.) BackUp your SketchUp preferences from the registry (only if you feel comfortable using the registry) Open "regedit", navigate to the hive " %(#000000)[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015]" and Registry → Export it to a file.

For better understanding, I attached two images more. I got a example of ray casting on google and wanna express it into second picture. As you can see, This is just combination of cone and cylinder. If ray casting is added, invisible area behind cylinder should be occurred. In other word, all parts of cone shape behind cylinder automatically have to be deleted. I would like to apply ray casting into usual shapes [image: xGCs_34.png] [image: SDUa_.JPG]

If I use the dimensions in layout they are not related to the SU object. If I change that (we have very often this case), the dimension will not change automaticly. This is the handicap in my opinion. So I accept the loss in comfort in relation to layout dimension. [image: TMwc_layoutdim.jpg]

Hi Jerry, Yes! You can do that. There are a number of ways to accomplish it but if the component is one you would use in other projects on a regular basis, You should probably put it in a component library. I've written about doing this several times. Here's one link.

@arnold55tree said: OK, Thankyou, I see it now. My browser didn't load the image properly. I'm surprised that you really need to also use the move tool. Its a two step process. Sketchup really is unique. It's a simple way to control the exact location of the cutting plane. The Rotate tool works on it also.

Dave, Thanks for mentioning about the differences between Scale and Move when working with items in drawing. I learned that lesson the hard way, early on. In this case, since these are metal slides, I was only interested in a pictorial representation that was true to overall size. Issues resulting from scaling like any increase in internal channel size were immaterial. As for the explanation of my problem, your analysis was right on. In order for the correctly sized component to replace the existing ones, I first had to open an existing component for Edit and, then, apply the Reload. Voila, all instances changed to 22". Something so simple, but ... Again, thanks for the help and insights.

I'm having the same trouble with the icons showing only a blank page. I just updated my system to Yosemite, and have regretted every second of it due to all the programing issues it seems to have with every program I use. I upgraded mainly because I use Podium and the newest version of Podium Walker only functioned for Yosemite. I'm very illiterate when it comes to programing jargon. What ended up being the fix for this?
