It's a bit hard to tell you anything when you give us the solid version, could you try one that isn't showing as solid. Technically even this version isn't a solid,it should really be defined and a void surrounded by an infinite nothingness. This is because you have the faces reversed, meaning the shape is inside-out. When viewed in Monochrome you should only see white faces, the blue/grey faces are the back or internal faces.

Yep, you are correct, in the situations where there is a coplanar connection it will cause problems.

Looks like the majority of those come from extensions you have installed. If there are too many menu items you could do one of two things. Remove some of the extensions or only load them when you want them. Of course nobody forces you to install all those extensions so you are in control of that.

Another great tool for terrain to be used instead of Sandbox for skinning is Fredo's Toposhaper. A good start if you have not seen it is an older video by Daniel Tal on 3d basecamp. Daniel has produced a lot of SU teaching materials, much of it regarding terrain work. You can search his blogs, videos, and books. I can't find my favorite basecamp video right now. Valiarchitects has some good tools if you are looking for plugins for roads, walls, and buildings. I also use Artisan and Vertex tools for this work.

With so many edges going on in there you are better off with the layer hiding option, but you can still make a significant difference by hiding the edges. [image: Dl5X_Softbleed.gif]

@pbacot said: @mluy said: @juju said: It is unwise to paint components / groups, rather paint the geometry within the group / component. Thanks but that is also what I tried, it also does not work Even drawing a box or rectangle without making it a component or group cannot be painted Are you saying that you have no materials showing as painted in the file at all? In this case it may be you've set the face style to "monochrome" and you need to set it to "shaded with textures". and in fact, your screenshot leads me to think this as well. That's cool the way it is indicated in SU for Windows. (Another fail on the Mac though) O my goodness thank you so much , you guys are awsome What a silly mistake to make, I am staring myself blind and the solution is right in front of me!!!

You haven't explained why you want to Intersect these faces inside the groups... However, to get intersection lines added into faces which are INSIDE a group, you first need to edit the group [double-click it or select+context-menu > edit], then select-all [Ctrl+A] > context-menu > Intersect with Model. New edges will be added into the edit-context where selected faces intersect other objects. Back-out of the edit, and repeat editing and intersecting faces in other groups. If your aim is to delete parts of a group's geometry to form 'miters' etc, then you might also want to add faces to those 'cut-ends' - by over-drawing edges. To see what you are doing more easily you can also chose the toggle in View > Component Edit > Hide Rest of Model [ it works on Groups too ! ]

I would draw a 4-5/8" edge from the origin point of your component on the correct axis then use the middle handle with ctrl to snap to the end of that edge.

To add to the above (seriously check out Flex Components). Free: WinDoor does doors and windows Paid: WinDoor**+** does doors and windows, not to be confused with the above even though it's from the same developer Window**+** only does windows, from the same developer as the above two I seriously doubt that these will work on your pre-6 version (as per your profile) of SketchUp.

It might well be because of the changes to the way SketchUp references objects with IDs. This has recently changed. Frankly I think that the present result us as it should be !

Step is a Nurbs format! Totally different than SKP file! So you must find a converter! You have this free stand alone who transform a format OBJ to 3dm by Michael Gibson (author of the famous Zen Nurbs Modeler MOI3D (not free) (3dm another commun Nurbs format) Result will be a 3D wire frame! It's more prudent to not take files of millions of polygons! So transform first your SKP in OBJ by TIG plugin OBJ exporter if you have not Pro version of SU! Here in Moi but will be the same in another Nurbs program! [image: _3531936.jpg] Another brut force workflow is to use the monster Fusion 360 ! (there is an hobby free version) Import your SKP file inside and use TSPline! Minute 2.30 - 3.00 You can now export as any format you want! (so STL) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heFWhzNwPFI

The pixel size of an image is just a parameter of the camera or image program that created the image; it has nothing to do with reality. I usually note the actual size of the item in the image, draw a rectangle that matches one dimension of the item, and then use File->Import with "Use as Texture" selected. Click one corner of the rectangle and then the diagonally opposite corner and the texture will be created sized to the real dimensions.
