Thanks, I'll see if I can make that work, though I do want to keep all the inner frame work. I was working bigger, maybe I'll try the Dave method. Really appreciate it.

I just wanted to make sure that I had it correct. So 8" center to center. Done. If my guy can open this, you will be my AutoCad hero! Thank you very much for the assist! He should be and glad to help

@pbacot said: sasra Please attach the SketchUp file. In the example picture I don't see a straight line. You need (1) a shape, (2) a straight line, and (3) the curved path, all set up in relation to the axes as in all the examples. I can't tell by the picture. here's the skp file (in 2017 ver) the sraight line is actually under the shape shape test.skp

Instead of using Intersect Faces, copy the circles from one component and paste them in place in the neighboring component.

@trogluddite said: My usual method (used on screw/bolt holes all the time), is to use the 'entity info' window - you have to do each end one at a time, but I find it less fiddly that the scale tool, especially for holes, where the surrounding material can make it hard to see exactly what you're doing. ....... Really easy solution, works a treat! Many thanks.

One side of the rectangle consists of two edges and this prevents the grid creation. After repairing this, I've got another error (see ruby console for plugin errors). I've scaled the component a little bit, so that there's more overlap regarding the grid. There are some errors in the result but it gets created, next I would try to use a finer grid... There aren't any settings in SketchUp for remapping the mouse buttons. Depending on the mouse you are using, though, you might be able change the button assignments in the control panel. My advice is to get used to the way it works in SketchUp. You'll orbit the camera more than you'll pan it so it makes sense to have fewer button pushes for Orbit.

@dave r said: In my experience, if I want to use something that someone else modeled, I expect to have to at least clean it up if not repair it. Due to the triangulation of STL files, it would be typical to have some clean up to do before you proceed to make modifications. I imported your STL and ran Thom Thom's CleanUp3 on it. It reports as solid although it's not a nice as I would like to see it. It should be printable as is, though. Generally I prefer to model things myself so I know exactly how they are made. It's often faster to model from scratch than repair something someone else made, anyway. Thanks for your feedback, I see what do you mean, However some things I want to modify are very complex in order to make from scratch In NUT example I uploaded before, yes, it is printable with Cura, but Solid Inspector 2 says it is not solid. The think is that I want to make a modification in Sketchup, and as I know, all kind of solid tools require obviously solid, in this case I need to close 63 borders, totally crazy... What would you recommend me in this cases? making a NUT from scratch, make a screw shape, etc, seems to be complex, right? Thanks a lot

Hi Shawb, OK, got it. The 'Unique Texture' option doesn't appear if you have the 'Face Style' view set to anything other than 'Shaded with Textures'. I had mine set to monochrome. Makes sense now. Apologies. I can now play around with this Cheers, G_O

I know gentlemen - it's a total mess, and which is why I was tempted to just redraw the darn thing, but sometimes taking the easy way out does not contribute to a learning experience. I will however do just that. Thank you all for your patience and help.

First you need to import the (I'm guessing .stl file into sketchup at a larger scale. This will allow it to import without all the missing faces. Once you have done that you can smooth all the triangulated edge so you have a solid that you can then work with.

To figure it out, you might draw it? Not sure what would be the "side" elevation in your case. You're right about the pitch. Use the protractor along the eave line, type 4:12, and make an angled guideline. Draw or pull the ridge line up to the guideline. Alternately you can figure how high the ridge would be by multiplication. If the building is 20' wide, then the ridge is 40" higher than the eave, (assuming it's a typical gable or hip roof)
