If you guys ever have an itch to get back to Blender, check out gryllus.net. There is an excellent set of video tutorials done by a Tufts University professor. If nothing else, they could provide food for thought on future Sketchup ruby scripts. mitcorb

I think my first plugin was probably make faces, or MAYBE simplify contours. I was importing terrains from autocad. If you feel like there is some critical document for beginners about how to use plugins that is missing, you would be best to write it yourself. Since you know what you think is missing, only you can put in the content that you think should be there. Then post it and get comments and crits. Sketchucation has a great tutorial forum where you could post it. Maybe if its well received it even gets put together as a tutorial in the SCF Tutorials section. Chris

raduteo The mtl file was missing a colour definition [Kd] and I also think SUp needs a jpg rather than a bmp [I did a save_as and also edited the mtl file to suit]... Anyway it then worked... I need to trap mtl's with a texture but no colour [using texture.average_color if no Kd ?]... I am looking at various fixes and other improvements... Please check out the Ruby Forum over the coming days...[image: OIWu_test.jpg]Updated...

when you say it doesnt start, does it not start at all? does anything happen when you click on the SU icon? one thing to try would be right clicking the SU icon->run as administrator. Bit of a guess but sometimes it does the trick.

Hi raduteo The sketchup importers on large meshes, models with unwarped materials, and sometimes for no reason aparent, can be almost useless. If you really want to import a high poly model into sketchup and avoid that error try dividing the model in 2 or 3 parts if possible in other software and import one at a time (preferably each part in a new file to avoid more errors. hope it helps David

Dylan, the pro demo should just turn in to the free version when the trial runs out, so it probably isnt that.

Rather consider these faces as they are trying to "fight" for visibility. In fact, in real world (as everything has some thickness) they don't appear so you should also try to avoind this scenario.

I feel for you. I have been through all this. I have managed to get Sketchup Pro 6 (version 6.4.245) to work with OS X 10.3.9 Panther. On a Pismo of all things. It is running in evaluation mode at the moment, I will keep you posted on whether it reverts to 'free' mode at the end of the 8 hours. Mind, beware of all the links you can find on a google search. Honestly, I don't know why they make it so difficult, without an easy to find 10.3.9 download up front on the main site it is all too easy to be driven into the welcome arms of cr**kers phreakers spammers and goodness knows what else. Here is what I did, and its all from the official source too (note health warning above): Download PM101494ENA.dmg from the google website. This is the Sketchup 6 Pro version I am using. It is on the page 'Downloading older versions', not an easy page to find, here is the link http://www.google.com/support/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=60107 Click on the link Google Sketchup Pro 6 <Mac OS X> to get the file and save it to your desktop. Once it has downloaded, double click on it to unpack it. Open the unpacked file. DO NOT CLICK ON THE INSTALLER. This will complain about wrong OS X version. INSTEAD, right click on it (ctrl click) and then click on 'Show Package Contents' from the menu which pops up. This will launch a Contents folder, which you can then open and then install the individual packages (there are 4) individually. All very demure, no mention of wrong OS version this way. Voila, enjoy. Worked for me, all appears to function as it should, your own mileage may vary, good luck.

@unknownuser said: Does anyone know if there is a way to align the view so that the print-out component profile dimensions are equal to those in reality? For example; If you laid out a rectangle in SketchUp, and the dimensions were 1"x1", how would i determine the right view so that the square turns out 1"x1" on printing paper? Is there a CAD program capable of this? http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=68460#p68460 is one way... search for 'print to scale' - there are lots of helpful suggestions...

First off Model Info >> Change Units to cm rather than mm... Everything is always made the correct size whatever the units you are using... However, you've made everything in mm thinking them to be cm, so you have made something 100[mm] thinking it was 100[cm] - i.e. 10 times too small. There are 2 ways to rescale everything... Method one: 'select all' to highlight everything in the model [check nothing is off/hidden/locked etc] and then use scale about a diagonal corner pair of handles x10. Everything should now be x10 bigger and therefore the sizes you originally expected. Since you now have you model units in cm anything you make from now on will be the correct size when entered [in cm]... The other way you can rescale the whole model is this... Use the tape measure tool, pick a vertex point and stretch the tool cursor out say 100, now immediately type 1000 and a dialog pops up asking if you want to scale the model, if you say yes the whole model is scaled by 10 - every 100 dimension is now 1000.... mm have become cm...
