I have Jing, too (seeing your videos I had to try ) For videos however (for the same "first try first stuck" reason) I still use AutoScreenRecorder (Free edition). I used to have a Camtasia 3 license they were giving out free during Christmas time in 2007 but then had a HW crash and they don't recover those "giveaway" licenses by support. Pity because Camtasia is a cool app but currently I don't need it so badly to pay some $ 300 (or so) for it - true that it would be version 6 already.

It´s about 400 cm in diameter. Unless this means that the model is seriously messed up, I can get over it. But I guess that this affects the texturing also?

If you don't want people to download and use your model to integrate it into theirs, you have two choices; don't upload it to the Warehouse don't allow people to download it (this can be set in the "Share" settings) Otherwise the whole purpose of the Warehouse is to share models with others to freely download/modify/use etc. so it is as simple as that; if you don't like these terms, don't use the Warehouse. Don't tell you were not warned before because you have (supposedly read and) agreed the Terms of Use. Anything beyond this is mere courtesy (say to give credits or not to contributors whose parts/models one "reuses").

Lavelle, the image doesn't say too much about the size of your model so if the problem is what I suggested above, it won't be any help. Say if the diameter of the whole shape is within a couple of centimetres (about an inch), the issue can be what I suspect. In this case, use the workaround above. If the shape is about a couple of metres (yards), there is something else. So to say; we aren't any closer to the problem and solution than before.

Hi Matthew and welcome! The Woodworking forum (and the "foreign language) forums are subscription based so that those who are not interested, don't have to deal with them. I've added you to the Woodworkers usergroup now so you should be able to see it and post there. Here is your User Control Panel where you can arrange stuff like this for yourself. http://forums.sketchucation.com/ucp.php?i=167 Look around there as there are a bunch of settings you can also make there.

Hi, mitcorb What amazes me most about SketchUp Community Forums is the effort of many talented members in providing us with tools for expanding the funcionality in SketchUp. This could save me a lot of frustration. Thanks!

Remus has just posted a "multiple offset" plugin in the ruby forum. Give it a go; offset will be your friend here and that plugin can speed things up. If you right click any entity (say a group or component) and go to Entity info, you can change the layer there.

That grass s not only the texture itself but a component already bearing the texture. You should use the component itself to populate your model with its multiple instances. You'd better put it on a separate layer however and turn that layer off while you're modelling (and only turn it on when exporting an image or animation) otherwise your video card may die.

PS. As for leaving the items ungrouped definitely not. For large models I always have lots of groups and components where I can.

Transparent materials in V-Ray are, frankly, a pain in the bum. It won’t recognise the transparency value of a png; and despite, the straightforward explanation in the manual, I’ve never yet managed to create a successful linked material with transparency that will simply replace all instances of the SU material. In fact, it often seems to refuse to work properly with png files at all. It will recognise the diffuse map ok, but simply refuses to apply any transparency to it…as you’ve probably found out. My method is to go to the original png image of the leaves and create two jpeg images from it…one a straight diffuse map (you might want to create another background layer in the png and colour it leaf green, before flattening the image and saving as jpg…just in case of any slight mismatch between the diffuse and alpha maps) The second image needs to be an alpha map. Copy one of the original image channels…the blue is usually the strongest. Make a separate image of this, then pull the levels sliders together, or turn the contrast right up, so it’s entirely black and white. Save this as the alpha image. In V-Ray, create a new material, specify the two new jpgs as the diffuse and transparency maps and check that they work ok on the preview sphere. You may have to invert the alpha image if you have it the usual white=opaque, black=transparent. Once it’s looking ok in the V-Ray material editor, apply it to both faces of the leaf masses on the model. If they are all separate you are going to have your work cut out. If your leaf masses are 1 or 2 repeated components, it takes no time at all. Here’s a quick V-Ray render of a 3D Ghost Gum that I’ve just applied the above method to. [image: x75P_gg_render.jpg]

Open your style dialog (Window menu > Styles), go to "In model" > "Edit" tab, "Edge settings" and at the bottom, set the edges to display by material in the pulldown. They will display by colours actually (as materials are 2d things while edges just 1d so cannot have a "pattern"). [image: AhzR_styles.png]
