I don't know how it would work in Vray (but maybe it does as you'd need a separate alpha map to see through) but in SU, if you paint a face with a transparent png file, it will still cast shadows. Have a look at this topic (more exactly the post I'm linking) where I attached a small png file that could be used in SU.

Outer arrays are covered here: http://www.martinrinehart.com/models/tutorial/tutorial_02.html#precision Inner arrays are covered here: http://www.martinrinehart.com/models/tutorial/tutorial_08.html#bed3 (Inner: page down a couple times, until you see the array of ballusters. Start just above the array with "We are about to use an inner array.") You use an outer array when you make a railing and you know how far apart the ballusters should be. You use an inner array where you can position the first and last, but aren't sure about what spacing will look best.

Go to Window > Styles > Edit and select the wireframe box. The numbers you place here affect your drawing.

Another handy little trick is to right click->align view to the face you want to dimension, makes snapping the inference a lot easier with wonky geometry.

Hi Colt and welcome @sevex0 said: sorry for the noob question Come on, this is the "Newbie Department" so any question is "allowed" Just to explain how NOT obvious this "trick" with the arrow keys have always been; it was first initiated in the free version of SU 5 (so Pro users didn't have it that time and they "had to" use the good, old, Shift key to lock a movement - which of course you can still do and when it's out of an axis, you still need to do). Anyway, when it was finally introduced into both versions of SU 6, "old" pro users could still hardly get used to it sometimes (I remember really respected and experienced members - from whom I have learnt lots and lots about SU during the years - expressing this). So there are things that are not always obvious therefore watching a fast recording video and not getting what someone is exactly doing there is not something you (or as a matter of fact, any beginners around) should apologise for. Hey folks, you can take this as a kind of "encouragement" to post the seemingly most embarrassing "noob" questions!

Guys, IO believe Kamikazee is talking about the Terrain (mesh) imported from GE, not the imagery. Valuable info about the imagery, too, however.

Could you post the model? or just one of the problem areas if the whole thing is too big. Theirs a chance theres some weird geometry making it go funny.

SU is a Cad, not graphics program so (unless I am mistaken) you can not paste images from the clipboard into it. You can however import images into SU, and use them in various ways. Goto File > Import, and pull down the "Files of Type" menu to see the formats supported.

Alsi in Model info > Staistics, you can "Purge all" (layers, styles, materials, components) in one step. Layers themselves are not too byte hungry but all the other three can boost your file size pretty easily if you don't pay attention.

If you have a door image for instance and know the exact dimensions of that door, make a simple rectangle of the exact size in SU; import the image as material (see this option at the bottom right of the import window) apply it to the face you've prepared by scaling it while applying to fit the whole face and voilá; you're done. Your texture will appear with the correct dimensions under the "In model" tab in your material browser and you can simply drag and drop it into any collection in your secondary window for later use.

Martin, The tool is one of Fredos Bezier tools. I goofed on the name a bit its "Catmull Spline" (no 's' in Catmull). mac1, What you say sounds right. I'll give it a go next time I get back to SU. I'll let you know in a day or two. Thanks.

You are right mac1 Geometry is not my priority at this moment as I told you in my PM. I will try different possibilities to give the model a natural look before the final render in SU. Thank you very much, I'm impressed by the help received from the forum.
