From what i understand about SU is that it uses the graphics card to a lot of the work.

Ok, so just copying different instances for different walls is the correct way to do it without a plug-in. Thanks, and thanks for the great video!

What TIG says... In SU, the only "native" way of projecting is planar. This may be okay from certain views (and not very curvy meshes) but of course, has its limitations...

Hi. I'm trying to bring a file using the "paste in place" from a file that it is already geo-located, to another file also geolocated and the insertion point when I paste it is on a different place, Is this a problem caused by a plugin, because I've installed some. Is this happend to anyone else? I'm using on SU8 pro 8.0.14346 Gracias.

Great, but if you ever get tired of renameing and creating layers, get a copy from my blog. All the Google Earth references have been removed.

Yes. If you cannot change the color of a closed group, then double-click on the group to enter "edit" mode. "Select all" and apply the new color. There is no need to explode groups to make any change you want. This is referred to as "entering the group", "editing the group", or "opening" the group. It is a command in the contextual menu when right clicking on a group: "Edit Group" (or you can double-click as mentioned above). Afterwards you can "close" the group by way of the Edit menu or left clicking in open space. If you really want to be able to just paint the whole component without opening it: First edit the component (or group), select all and paint all the DEFAULT color. Thereafter you can change the color without editing the component. For more on colors (or materials) and groups & components: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=94958

Hi Paolo, hi folks. Go to Windows --> Model Info --> Unitsand uncheck the box labeled Enable length snapping. This will lessen the number of unwanted snaps. Zooming in will also help. Just ideas

Your arch arc isn't on an axis - it's slightly off. This is itself mightn't cause an issue, but if you pick points locked axially it could be a problem... Try recreating your arch arcs parallel to the the green/red axes, find the center point and re radially array the 'dowels'...

Under the extensions tab, you can only activate already installed extensions. These extensions are generally plugins written in a simple text format with a file extension *.rb (sometimes *.rbs) referring to the file type " ru by" (the scripting language of SketchUp plugins). Some more complex plugins may contain other file formats, too (like images for toolbar buttons) and are generally placed inside a *.zip archive that you need to unpack to the same place where you would install *.rb files. In SU 8, there is a possibility to rename this *.zip archive to *.rbz (or " Ru By Zip") and directly install the extensions/plugins with this "Install extension" button (i.e. you need not go to your Program files... > ... Plugins directory to manually copy/unpack files there). But you only use that button for these *.rbz files.

All right, I understand now. It seems that you need to turn that "component 3" into a so called "external component" (which you can collapse in the component browser and only display the top level component). Here is a short tutorial I made a while ago. The original purpose was somewhat different but you can also use it for this - although it may take a bit of time to export and re-import every top level component.

Thank you guys! That looks like that should really do it. I'll give it a run. It will help us have a starting view of our site that's consistent with other working views. Peter
