@unknownuser said: @unknownuser said: Right - so if I make a wrapper that will refresh after a given max interval - otherwise invalidate - that would be an ok method? by using that you dont address the problem because you dont take in account system draw. but it can be used as workaround. So skip the view.invalidate all together?

@thomthom said: But I just wanted to understand Regexp better - to why I could not do what I tried to do. I thot I explained it. Your first example, returns the position of a match, IF it occurs using =~ /(foo|bar)/ ... which is an integer index. In contrast, both match() methods return a MatchData object. @thomthom said: So it's not possible to do what I intended with Regexp? ... BUT you then went on to say what you wished was to have the matched numerical string returned, so let me simplify the code (the secret is the $+ global pattern matching variable): # define a Regexp rx = /(\*\s*(d+)|(d+)\s*\*)/ rx.match('* 15') $+.to_i >> 15 rx.match('15 *') $+.to_i >> 15

Hi TT, I was speaking of an own object type (array of parameters for instance), not SU entities or objects.

That will be troublesome. Even if you create your own wrapper class that takes a Sketchup::Material into a class that does support marshalling you have the issue of the Ruby API not being able to set the Colourize property. And you'd have to figure out a way to handle the texture, as you say. You could write that Base64 encoded or something, but you cannot restore it to reference the original filename. Why do you need to store the whole Material object?

@unknownuser said: By the way, it seems that, on MAC, active_tool_name may return a truncated text (for instance "ctionTool" for SelectionTool, or "angle" for Rectangle). Yes... this is the reason we are treating this issue. We need to use the tool_id rather than the tool_name to work around the Mac bug. In SU8 Google did fix the Mac tool name bug for the ToolsObserver, but forgot to fix the Tools collection active_tool_name() method.

@gulcanocali said: @thomthom said: Don't think you can create zero length edges via Ruby. model.active_entities.add_line( ORIGIN, ORIGIN ) <- returns nil The first step in my note should have been "move the vertex on top of the other vertex you want to merge with" (then there may be an edge with zero length). After that follow the next two steps. That seem to have worked. Though temp groups and edges feels a big hacky - I wonder if there's a cleaner way. Would be interesting to get some insight to how SU does this internally. But thank you very much for this working method!

In that example, thomthom, there are definitely lights inside, right? What about giving them a color? Tungsten 100W have a color temperature around 3200K which is about RGB 255,241,224. Because of the reflection on the roof overhang, it looks to me like they are actually changing the color of the lights. I'm all for some post-pro, but the more I can do in the rendering itself the better, IMO. That way I can reproduce the effect as I change the design.

@dan rathbun said: @tig said: a1=[1,2,3] both a2=a1 ### makes a new reference to the same array, 'a1' a2=a1.to_a ### makes 'a1' into an array [which it is already!] and then makes a new reference to the same array, 'a1' !! will still refer to a1, so consequently changing a2 changes a1 too ! BUT a2=a1.dup makes a separate copy of a1, as will a2=a1+[] as adding two arrays together produces a new array, even when the second one is empty; and now changing a2 leaves a1 alone To clarify, since "assignment creates references"...: a1=[1,2,3] ### creates a new array object referenced by a1 a2=a1 ### makes a new reference ( a2) to the same array object that a1 is pointing at. a2=a1.to_a ### a1.to_a returns *self* both references are pointing at the same array object, so consequently that object can be changed using either reference a2 or a1. BUT a2=a1.dup ### makes a new array object, (referenced by a2,) that is a copy of the array object that a1 is pointing at. Nice round-up.. But be aware #dup performs a shallow copy. So any proper objects (as opposed to simple numbers) in that array are copied by reference. So: a = [10, 20, [30,31,32]] c = a.dup a[2][0] = 'Tada!' c will print: [10, 20, ["Tada!", 31, 32]]

@tig said: t=UI.start_timer( 1, false ) { 1.times{UI.stop_timer(t); UI.messagebox('Hello World')}} works as you only make one instance ? What I think happens is: SketchUp stops non-repeating timers ( with the repeat flag to false ) after it processes the block given to UI.start_timer. Because the messagebox is modal it halts normal execution, but the timer stills runs because it hasn't been stopped yet. My workaround is to manually stop it before the messagebox is displayed. I'd expect to see the same behaviour from modal webdialogs.
