Very cool Pete & highly original. These are some of the, for lack of a better word, funnest renderings I have seen. They have great quality, but the whole concpet and the way they are put together just entertain the viewer so much. Great job

Yeah, the toolbar Fredo has come up with is amazing. Makes me wish all the coders would collaborate and jointly work on perfecting some of the "must have" tools. Could you imagine how good sculpt tools, shape bender or some of the others would be if it incorporated Fredo's toolbar? As far as a shape tiler ruby goes, I guess the most challenging part of that coding would be fitting the tiled shapes into a defined space and having the edges cut off accurately. It's interesting how LWCAD does it. If you see this video - http://www.wtools3d.com/swf/online_help/LWCAD_30/detailed_sidewalks/detailed_sidewalks.htm It's amazing how you can turn the array of tiled shapes as if it were a texture and have it still fit within the face. I think a ruby like this would have to start maybe as a hatch tool of some kind, and then have the script fill every face in the hatch with the chosen shape. How would you guys perceive a tool like this functioning?

Thanks Chris, Between your, and Modelhead's post, I am no longer downloading files from that site. I have been experimenting with ways to us MS's blog features to store images, and videos. Some how they picked up on my storing videos, and currently block my uploads. Funny how normal images are OK but video's are not. If I hadn't upgraded Win Live Writer, I might have been OK. Oh well, its their prerogative

@jql said: I just said that with my SSD AND without thumbnails, I don't get 2 secs saves. I don't even notice saving anymore. @unknownuser said: I understand that but if you need your render to look nice you need to import some complex models ( flowers, vase, figurines etc.. ) and these really hit sketchup hard. You should use proxies for that sort of stuff. @unknownuser said: Check the remaining time for just merging faces : Merging faces is not saving a model, it's a complex face operation like explode or import. My problem is not the rendering, I can render relatively quickly. But the problem with Sketchup itself. I have been trying to load a 118 MB skp file into sketchup but it took over 6 hours. What's funny is that 3DS Max could load it in 2 mins. We can't deny that Sketchup is slow, really slow and I refuse to leave it for basic modeling as it has a lot of potential to compete with the big 5 but then we need a major update.. maybe a complete re-written Sketchup. When V-Ray 2 comes out with Proxy objects this will be very nice. Though, without proxy rendering this would be too much for a scene unless the scene is only a couple of them shrubberies. I really can't wait for VfSU2 so I can use models like that. It looks really good!

An exporter for models from SketchUp Pro has been one of the most frequently requested tools for MachStudio Pro. The free exporter is now avaialble making it easy to export 3D assets from SketchUp Pro 7 into MachStudio native GXB formats. These models can then be imported into MachStudio Pro where an artist can create and manipulate lights, materials, and HDR cameras in a real-time, non-linear workflow environment to achieve film quality results. The SketchUp Pro 7 exporter plug-in can be downloaded for free at http://studiogpu.com/downloads/ MachStudio Pro harnesses multi-threaded GPU computing to change the equation of time vs. quality. Frames that normally take 20 to 40 minutes each to render can be rendered in seconds at comparable quality.  Processes which normally would be separated into specialized tasks in production, or off-loaded to render farms, are instead possible in a concise, creative workflow. It has been discussed previously here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=20287
