@otb designworks said: Guess we shouldn't have expected them at all... To some extend I can agree, that it's a little disappointing that so few feature requests have made it so far... I assume that it's primary caused by the migration to 64-bit, which I acknowledge have been a huge task...! I do hope that now where these things are in place, they have the time to work on the feature requests in the future... @otb designworks said: It would also be really very helpful if we could import DWG/DXF files No need to double-post...

Hi Chuck- Just to let you know, a number of the LayOut team members have read that wishlist post, and I'll work up a point-by-point reply when I get a chance. Stay tuned, and thanks. Edit: This was reposted as a separate thread, I'll follow the discussion there: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13%26amp;t=56754 Marc

@unknownuser said: Really great work Chuck!. I am also interested in seeing some of your construction docs in layout. Have you compared the detail and time to produce this work against some other BIM programs like Revit, Vectorworks or Archicad? It would be interesting to me and I am sure others to see how our SU stands up next to the "$eriou$" software. Hi Jim, An essential component of these VBE's are that they are readily distributable and accessible to and by contractors and builders. I have worked in various different modeling and drawing softwares and, for me, Sketchup and Layout, even with all their blemishes, were the way to go. But I can't really give an indication of time comparisons, ease of use, etc vs the big softwares, sorry. I can say that I wish Trimble was more aggressive with the development of both Sketchup and layout; there are definitely aspects of both that cause me heartache and time wasted. Both are way too unstable, in my opinion, and Layout just takes too many damned clicks of the button to be a real joy (I would pay serious money just for the ability to move a dimension to one end of the dimension line, as in Sketchup, without the 6 well-timed clicks it takes now; that alone costs me days of time over a year, for example)

Orientation kinda matters because it could inference along one of the model's axis lines (red, green, or blue) or if it is close to one of these axis lines it may snap to it rather than the point you are trying to inference to. Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening? Its obviously not an isolated issue.

@unknownuser said: I still don't see why they are incapable of printing pdf? Back when I used ACAD, everything was printed from PDF - never used .Tif due to the potential scaling issues. I don't live in a large town either - around 15000 population and our printer gets it right every time. If you get really frustrated, I just bought an in house printer for $2800 that works incredibly well. It can print the pdf's generated from LO in 1 minute full color. It's an HP T790. It's been great so far! Sonder, First....thank you for your incredible support/advise/tutorials of the SU Layout module. An inspiring compilation indeed. RE: Local Print Shop I do not understand my local print shops difficulties either....to my (mild) yet vocal frustration, I have not really pressed them on it but to say/demonstrate the omissions/etc. To which they will "get it right" the second go round. That said, I normally print off 11"x17"'s of my Arch D's for proofing (BizHub) which of course are just as they should be. IOW...I rarely print Arch D's for my own consumption............rather leave that for the client/contractor(s) etc. to order. And of course that is where the problems arise.........the WYSIWYG .pdf......often does not square with the print shops output. I am running on here........but....end of the day I think we are fast approaching a somewhat paperless document era.........and in my opinion it cannot happen fast enough with respect to the current printing difficulties. Plus, seeing all the incredible details you have created....would be a real shame to see them printed grey scaled. All the best, Charlie

Found out that the section states was caused by the View > Section Cuts had been unchecked. This happened with a couple different files, but not with others. Weird. The layers are a bit more random. Oddly, it seems like just for the scene that was open when the file was saved. Once corrected, the files seem to be ok - that is, once I set the Section Cuts and layers, update the scene, and save the file the file is correct the next time I go into it. It just seems like an odd glitch for an update that is billed mainly as rebranding. The other items mentioned in the release notes don't look like they'd affect file saving.

Here is the main frame, with both the Bedroom and Kitchen wings complete. Now that we have finished the valley setup in the shop, we can integrate it into the main frame, which, in my opinion, is the crux move of the entire build. Too bad. Get a mouse for SketchUp jobs. The quick access to the navigation tools with the middle mouse button is indispensable. Look at the SU system requirements where it (not incidentally) says "...3 button, scroll-wheel mouse". However, if you insist, the Orbit (and Pan: Shift+Orbit) tools have a special behaviour when launched as tools used by the left mouse button (or equivalent of the touchpad): whatever tool you were using before, if you press the Escape key while in Orbit or Pan, you will be put back to that tool (so no need to select that particular tool gain). But this is really a "hidden" and rarely if ever used feature since (as I said and also suggested by the developers), most people use a proper, 3-button mouse.

Thanks for the great tip, Richard; it is much appreciated! Hopefully, that makes things a bit easier, though a ton of hatching patterns installed with LO would be great, too.

@unknownuser said: I can't figure out what isn't working as expected, but, I too, also have difficulties with getting the dwg/dxf exports to work in the readers. I have no access to Autocad, but I know that the dwgs I sent to a local engineer was exhibiting weirdness in his autocad. Text was coming in as hatching blocks was the most annoying, and finally not solved, issue. I kind of gave up and did no further experimenting chuck, following barry's suggestions, I changed my LO pages to vector mode and exported them to model space. it worked fine, with minor text problems. if you like, send me your exported dwgs and I will open them with acad.
