Most annoying SU behavior
-
While it may not bother me as much as it does OldNick, the "always make a face" aspect of SU can be annoying at times, especially when fixing problems inside geometry.
Especially now, using Solid Inspector, where I have a number of internal errors, I will temporarily delete an outside face to see and get inside the object. If the problem is in any way connected to that face, and I fix the problem, the face reforms. Not exactly a terminal action, but it does get tedious after a few times.
But then the most exasperating thing is when I want to reface the very same perimeter and IT WON'T.Then there are constructs that I do not want a face, but they form automatically every time I modify the perimeter.
A solution is the "NOFACE.rb" where you select the perimeter and click NOFACE. It will define those perimeter lines not to form a face, until they are reselected and the FACE command is clicked.
Any RUBY magicians want to take that one????? -

Any RUBY magicians want to take that one?????you can use Edge Draw from Rich's pen tool to do that if you're just using the a line tool (ie- this won't work with the circle tool for instance)

and hey, good to know that rich is a magician now

All of the tools in 2dTools like circle, arc, line, rectangle etc draw lines only, with no faces - unlike the native tools. The 2d ones are constrained to the z-plane [which you can set if you don't want z=0]

I get extremely annoyed by the Materials window constantly opening every time I select the bucket tool. I have already chosen the material I want to use, so I double click the window to collapse it and move it out of the way. When I've finished paint all the parts currently in my view with the selected material, I rotate the camera to a new spot, switch back to the bucket, and BOOM! It un-collapses and gets in my way...again...
Grrrrr....

Yeah, I hate that too. However you don't really need the bucket to paint, avoiding the Materials window.
Simply open the Entity Info window and just select the faces with the select pointer. Then select the material/color that is already present in the model, either/both front and back faces, (and/or lines if Line color is on, and lines selected). Works on comp/group external coloring too.
You only really need the bucket if you need a mat/color that is not in the model.

Also, while the paint bucket tool is active, you do not really need to change to Orbit or pan tools but use the middle mouse button to change views and when you release it, the Paint tool will be "re-activated" without the Material browser popping up again.

You really should look at running twin screens - I run all my dropdowns on the second screen.

Is version 9 going to allow multiple models in Sketchup for Windows? You can do it in Mac but not Windows.
Could someone sort out the discrepancies with the axes/guides relationship. They were always independent of each other but now they react with each other.

I don't use a mouse, I'm using a laptop and the fingerpad.

Too bad. Get a mouse for SketchUp jobs. The quick access to the navigation tools with the middle mouse button is indispensable. Look at the SU system requirements where it (not incidentally) says "...3 button, scroll-wheel mouse".
However, if you insist, the Orbit (and Pan: Shift+Orbit) tools have a special behaviour when launched as tools used by the left mouse button (or equivalent of the touchpad): whatever tool you were using before, if you press the Escape key while in Orbit or Pan, you will be put back to that tool (so no need to select that particular tool gain).
But this is really a "hidden" and rarely if ever used feature since (as I said and also suggested by the developers), most people use a proper, 3-button mouse.
