Select the DC in the Component tray and then right mouse click and select properties. That will let you go for the 'Glue to' and the 'Cut Opening'. I tried this on your DC just now and and you will need to open the DC for editing, select all the sub-components and move them down to the Z=0 position for the vertical 'glue to' to work. At present the back of the whole component will stick to the outside wall face. (try it first after setting the 'glue to'. Also, to cut the outer wall face create a rectangular face (inside the DC) level with the outer wall face. Delete this face to leave just the bounding lines. Do not group these, they form the cutting element. Exit the DC and bring in a fresh DC from the tray - this should now give you the one face opening cut. Attached modified DC to pick at. Ah, yes as a developer I can see Rhino's draw. I have FormZ as well and it's taken some time to learn it's way as opposed to SU's way. I do like FormZ's openness to allowing their free and Jr versions to be used for ANY purpose, even commercial. I also like the included tool set missing from SU, stairs, walls, nurbs, etc..

The banner-ads are set up by a third-party specialist, using a SketchUp/CAD/Rendering/Graphics list of related products. SCF have no control of what they show - although we can whinge when non-relevant things sneak in. I am surprised that a 'defunct' product is included by them - since they'll not get any revenue [no matter how minuscule it is per-view], and neither will SCF ! I'm sure Rich will be on to it !

To preserve the organization of scenes, close and reopen the scenes window before saving and closing SketchUp. This also works if you're having problems with toolbars and trays not holding position.

ConDoc uses a type of Style hack to create hatching that Skalp doesn't play nice with. No info on v4 though. It requires you to adopt Mike's workflow to modeling etc to really benefit from it. Cool tool though.

What is the future for Sketchup? Will Sketchup 2018 be the last desktop based software only to be replaced by a web based software like Sketchup Free? How will this affect Sketchup Pro versions or will the Pro version also be web based. I find web based apps to be fraught with many issues including application crashes; memory hungry web browsers; data limits for those without a DSL connection including people of lesser financial means to sustain a cloud based connection without eating into data limits. How will this affect extension development and will extension developed for Sketchup Free work with versions at or below Sketchup 2018. Generally speaking I'm sure Sketchup 2018 should have at least another 3 years of life in it. Many people are in fact still using Sketchup 8.

As I understand Layout is for publishing projects. Sketchup is for sharing files with partners. And that is the whole story. You can export layered DXF with Skalp.

I agree, having to rely on internet connectivity to validate your license is probably not a good idea. Even if you are online, what if the server you are phoning home to is having issues or experiencing some downtime. For that reason a more reasonable approach is probably better.

I've asked for this before too. It would be key. There's a huge gap between what happens in SU and LO. It will get better over time I guess, but...
