I know gentlemen - it's a total mess, and which is why I was tempted to just redraw the darn thing, but sometimes taking the easy way out does not contribute to a learning experience. I will however do just that. Thank you all for your patience and help.

First you need to import the (I'm guessing .stl file into sketchup at a larger scale. This will allow it to import without all the missing faces. Once you have done that you can smooth all the triangulated edge so you have a solid that you can then work with.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried the method and it seems to work fine. Now, there is only one thing left that's causing some trouble but I'll try to resolve it on my own before asking about it here. Thank you for your help

Without republishing their site the quickest way for them to go secure (https) would be to enable Cloudflare on their site, it can route a std http site through their servers to produce a https one. https://www.cloudflare.com/

Not quite sure what is the problem, you could private message some examples; however some points Breaking a bond is done by making the copied components unique. for groups, sometimes make unique (right click menu) is available. If groups are the problem then running this script should help http://ruby.sketchup.com/Sketchup/Group.html#make_unique-instance_method [image: 1KMU_Capture.jpg] If the copied groups or components have the same parent, same header then double click the title box to change its name before changing the attributes

@tig said: To see the surface's edges you could use View > Hidden Geometry > ON They'll then be visible but dotted, and the facets forming the surface become 'separate'. Any smooth/soft/hidden edges can be seen dotted, and selected/edited etc... If you want them as solid edges... To change them all to solid edges [with the setting View > Hidden Geometry > ON], use the Smooth tool [context-menu] and set the slider to minimum, all edges should turn to solid. If some do not change the original author might have also 'hidden' them. To fix those select all of the edges and context-menu > Unhide... Now all edges should be solid, dividing the surface into its facets. All smooth, soft and hidden behaviors having been removed Thank you!

@pbacot said: I don't know if this works in your setup or dynamic components for that matter. And I suspect it is no good if you are outputing the chosen material (color) in some bill of materials... But I use "Material Replacer" to globally change a material in a model. Thanks for the hint; I'm sure it is very usefull, but at the moment I suspect to have a serious performancies issue, for which I will post right now in a new topic. Giacomo

To figure it out, you might draw it? Not sure what would be the "side" elevation in your case. You're right about the pitch. Use the protractor along the eave line, type 4:12, and make an angled guideline. Draw or pull the ridge line up to the guideline. Alternately you can figure how high the ridge would be by multiplication. If the building is 20' wide, then the ridge is 40" higher than the eave, (assuming it's a typical gable or hip roof)
