Well, these projects are the ones one never finishes - maximum does not work any longer on them. There will be an exhibition opening next month where some of my older (Medieval) works will serve as "illustration" and this one is actually only the beginning of a large, Antique project.

When I served in the army as an artillery scout, we indeed had to take magnetic deviation (declination) into account (well, it is obviously not indifferent where you shoot with a 152 mm cannon over a 25 km distance of course). I really doubt that such a small deviation would have any serious affect on how a model is placed on GE. Also, it changes from place to place and not even only up to the geographic location relative to the geographical and magnetic North but a bunch of other things can affect it. Is it really worth the hassle? What project do you have where it would be so important?

Thanks for the help guys. Being a 'KISS' (keep it simple stupid!) kind of guy, I tried the restart solution first and that cleared it up! I can see where I am starting my lines again!

I also wish the PushPull tool did not work this way but there IS a reason; it can only go down until the sides are parallel. If it went further, some faces should somehow turn "inside out" and create invalid geometry so developers seem to have rather put this limitation in rather than risk messed up geometry which can cause bigger problems even when fixed.

No, I did not say anything like that. Instead, here is an example file. On Shape A the material is positioned (it does not matter how or with which pins) while on Shape B it is not. Try to move both and notice that if you once position a material (again, no matter how), the material will be fixed (UV mapped) to the face but until then it is just "floating" in model space. shapes.skp

Seems the documentation is inside the file @unknownuser said: Align selection in 3D, starting from a clicked XYZ axis system to a target XYZ plane (Autocad-like). PDF doc included. [image: in5e_align.jpg]

I'll keep that in mind, too, but I'm thinking ten to one the ghosts occur around groups / components with bits on displayed layers but with shared faces / edges on other layers not displayed, not '0', and not right. I'll venture that tt's routine isn't aggressive enough to clean up that kind of problem.

For what you want to do, I think that the easiest ways are : 1 - draw metal 2 - pathface 3 - extrudeedgesbyface 4 - Extrude Edges by Rails A quick video of the differences between them : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8fA4TItuCA&feature=player_embedded

Assuming it's in inches, make the initial circle 1" diameter and then 'scale' it about its 'center' in both X/Y by the actual inch value the user has inputted [or as it is calculated from the rectangular part's dimensions ?] - so if it needs to be 12" diameter then 'scale' it x12 ?

coulteri: Yes, most likely either the dxf or the import process. I am not the expert here, but what I have learned is that the original dwg or whatever, needs to be cleared of stray z values. This happens when the original drafter unintentionally or otherwise failed to snap vectors to appropriate endpoints, midpoints etc. There is a thread or two here involving best practices for import dxf's and how to prepare them.
