Here is Twilight Render (using Kerkythea''s rendering engine in the background) and its rendering "preference" (order) for different textures is this (as far as I remember): materials applied on front faces (in the lack of the above) materials applied on back faces (in the lack of the two above) materials applied to groups/components Now you really have to be careful especially with # 1 and 2 because you may have a material applied on a face in your model to a back face visible but if there is anything on the front face "behind", you will get surprisingly unwanted results. Here is an example (really old model with lots of mistakes I made when I had only been using SU for about half a year) http://www.septichora.hu/karmelita/karmelita.swf It's an interactive spherical panorama. When loaded, navigate with your left mouse button and turn around to see the (very basic and primitive) rose window on the west. The frame of it renders black and this is because inadvertently I used a back face there and could not see it until the render was complete (and it is a huge render so I have not had the time to remake it yet). So unless you want to use external apps, you need not care too much but once you decide, you can get in trouble both with re-using your old models and even using your new ones if you have not disciplined yourself to keep face orientation correct all the time.

lso worth mentioning that "Hidden line" face style will not be shaded (when sun is turned off). This is good to know when you need to export some 2d thing for post-precessing (like creating alpha masks and such). Also it does not use the default material but the beckground colour.

Well you won't create an engine (unless you are a crazy 3d physics programmer of some sort). Chances are you will use an existing 3d engine like the CryEngine, or one from any number of games that supply their game engine. If you are giong to make a game, I'd suggest spending time deciding what engine you will use first. Because much of how you make your models will depend on how your game engine can accept them. Some engines are VERY picky about how their models can be made. Other engines are a little nicer about it.

@chris fullmer said: Probably, what file type does anim8or accept? .3ds, .lwo and .obj if I remember correctly, along with it's own .an8(?) format. Probably the easiest way is to export .obj from SU and import into anim8or... Cheers.

Thanks Guys! Both methods worked!! I didn't even think about opening the Component by itself in Sketchup. I was working from the Component browser. And yes, once you open it that way, you can see it's not at the right spot on the axis. I assumed it would take the location/position when I 'made it a component' originally. Anyways, great help. For anyone else looking, both adjusting it via the move tool in the component itself, or right clicking and re-aligning the axis works perfectly. Joe

Thanks, Paul. I do have Pro. Just not too familiar with it. But it sounds like the best way. The best alternative is suppose is as you suggest- get the area I want covering as much of the monitor screen as possible and then fiddle with it. Thanks, much. Dave

They are png's (with transparent background) I think I got them from the pack that was published here saying "2Gb of textures".

Of course no problem with the wrong place - I just didn1t understand. And welcome to SCF by the way. I saw that you were directed here in the SU Help Forums, too - now found TIG so you should be able to sort this out with him.

What I ended up doing was adding a new face to a group, by retracing the lines of the group. I ended up pulling the new face out a tiny bit to keep the new layer from "flaring" or reacting with the original face, when orbiting/moving it works for now.

@rv1974 said: @Fredo: I swear you was the real target of the topic starter! Gotcha! Actually, I was referring to the interactive method to edit curves shown in the Russian demo. For the Ramp question, there are approximate solutions. Attached is a small standalone plugin showing the concept (indeed, it would deserve a GUI to pick the contours, play with parameters, propose to skin with curviloft, etc...) - maybe I will integrate the function in Curviloft [image: FubM_RampShearing.gif] The plugin is realsed in the Plugin section of the forum: see http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=29230#p254673 To use the plugin CurviShear Select one or several curves (it has to be real Sketchup Curves) Contextual menu (or plugin menu) Curve Shearing Dialog box to enter the base height, the maximum height and Group option. New curve(s) are generated The plugin also works with a single curve. When you have more than 2 curves, the ordering is unfortunately dependent on the SU selection order. IMPORTANT: For the time being, the Direction for Shearing is the Z AXIS. So you curves should preferrably be in the Horizontal plane. Fredo

Bummer. Thought so. I've figured out to wait until I'm sure I'm ready to do it. Thanks Gaieus. I do appreciate all of the expertise I've found here. Lynn
