I am running the most recent version of Sketchup on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

I selected a couple of things to intersect (an ungrouped rectangular prism and a component) because I wanted a definite line to show up where they intersected.

Now, that little Mac ball is just spinning and spinning and it Forced Quit says that Sketchup is not responding.

      1. Is this a hopeless situation or will it eventually finish what it's thinking about?
      2. Is there a way to get it to stop thinking and not do the intersection?
      3. Or do I have to actually Force Quit?

      also

What did I do wrong with the intersection so I know how to do it correctly in the future?

Thank you all for any assistance you can render,
      Bantymom

It should eventually finish. If it is complex geometry it can take quite a while. Just keep letting it process.

Thank you, it did eventually stop like you said it would.

            Hi folks.

When you want to intersect a shape with some part of a rather complex model, make sure that you select only the shape and the parts that are actually intersecting and then use "Intersect selected". This will avoid unnecessary work for SU since it will restrict its search of intersections to only what was selected. Doing otherwise, will force SU to check for intersections between the shape and all of the model, even if you know that most of the model is not touched by the shape.

The choice "Intersect selected" is not there for nothing.

The same goes for "Intersect with context". This will restrict SU to search for intersections only in the context (group of components) that is active for editing. This is another time saver with complex model.

            Just ideas.

That makes so much sense now that you've said it. Would you (or anyone reading this) please tell me:

              1. When "Intersect Model" would then tend to be used?

              2. What "Intersect with Context" does?

'Intersect with Model' intersects the selected objects with everything in the model - even if you can't even see some of them at that moment.
'Intersect with Context' intersects the selected objects with everything in the current edit session - this might be the whole model, or the contents of a group/component during an edit of them [in which case other intersecting objects outside of this will be ignored]...
'Intersect with Selected' intersects the selected objects with each other - ignoring anything else that might also intersect........

Can anyone tell me how to un-intersect? I did this and then wanted to move the object. Could do it if I deleted each line, but that was a pain. Is that the only way to do it? (Too late for "undo" πŸ˜’ )
                  Thanks

No, there is no "un-intersect" other than the undo command. Intersection lines are simple geometry and later in the course of modelling can only be deleted just like other, "normal" geometry.

                    Gai...

                      Bummer. Thought so.
I've figured out to wait until I'm sure I'm ready to do it.
Thanks Gaieus. I do appreciate all of the expertise I've found here.
