There are a few ways to do this, I would draw the building separately temporarily making the 'basement' deeper than necessary, group it, then move it into position and Right click -> "Intersect with model". Another way is to model the building and use the sandbox Stamp tool to stamp the building footprint into the terrain.[/quote] Thanks! I'll give it a shot.

@gaieus said: Hm... There have been a couple of issues in the WH lately but I have never seen this one yet. Try to download your model and upload again (this should overwrite your existing one in the WH rather than uploading as a new one). The preview image should be generated immediately when you upload but the 3D view may take a while (couple of hours at least but sometimes a day or two). I have actually tried uploading it several times. However the big black thumbnail is exactly what I have on my home machine, even when I download something from the warehouse and save it on my machine I get the big black box thumbnail.

To MaryonSketchup: From the picture you provided, it looks as if for some reason the edges of that rectangle are not on the same plane as the rest of the flat face. These edges may be "microscopically" separated from that plane, and I do not believe even using Intersect Selected will change that. So apparently you have a faceless rectangle, which may even be slightly twisted. Try drawing a diagonal in the rectangle. Of course, I may be missing something in the information. You could also upload a copy of your file in much the same way as the image. Only meant to assist. mitcorb

I've never thought about doing the racing surface as a seperate component. I think I'll try that aproach for road courses now.

Well, as it turns out, a friend managed to put together a Sketchup file that can export an animation of a model spinning in 36 frames. Using styles I've been able to mimic render quality. It's not perfect, but good enough for my purposes. Thanks for your help!

@chris fullmer said: I went ahead and made a DC that does what you want. The user can choose one of 4 colors from a list. Then upon OnClick'ing on the component, it changes between dark, medium, and light of that color. I'll attach the DC and you can check it out. @jean lemire said: Hi Banaticus, hi folks. Yes, normally, you can use the Dimension Tool inside the group or component to add the diameter of the hole. If you would like this dimension entity to reside outside the group or component and be, instead, at the root of the model, you can try this: 1 - Open the group or component for editing, if not already opened; 2 - Select the dimension; 3 - Cut it (CTRL-x on PC, CMD-x on Mac); 4 - Close the group or component; 5 - Paste in place. Notice that this will break the association of the dimension with its related geometry. Any change made to the circle will not ne reflected on the dimension. Just ideas. jean, that is a seriously convoluted workaround. I dont use dims in su anymore, (except for my working drawings.) For anything that needs presentation, it's straight to 'layout' for moi. baz

I tried the remove the definition by doing defn.remove! but I have this exception : (eval):22:in `erase!': Cannot determine parent of entity getting better .. ill try to figure out how to delete thanks for all appreciated inst.erase! erases an instance. group.erase! erases a group. or to 'remove' a defn completely erase! all of it's entities inside a start_operation..commit..

IGNORE WHAT FOLLOWS, I wrote it before I saw the light, and go to the bump which follows. **Thank you much, David. I meant to be clear that I think I understand well the scene manger's utility for storing all manner of settings, including axes, and for updating all or any one of them in bulk or individually. What I meant by a user being able to set a default custom axes is that one could set it and it would remain that way until manually changed (including through scenes). Fiddling with scenes would then not be required at all even if one's desired axes differed from SU's geo driven default. 'Multiple defaults' may be a poorly coined phrase, maybe stickily-definable is marginally better?? Anyway, I hope you understand me but I don't want to waste any more of anyone's time on this, even if I can't get any measure of concurrence, out of anyone. I'll be alright.**

Thank you all for the input though, this has been the fastest a forum like this has ever turned around an answer for me. Actually many helpful answers. Thanks again.

Here is that Cornered Table or a version of it. I'm not sure the dimensions are right but I took a shot at it. [image: i0lh_corneredtable-sml.jpg] cornered table.skp

Peter A test scene would be interesting, but would probably have to be developed with a specific test in mind, or contain layers that could be turned on progressively as the test goes on. In my experience, shadows, poly count and scale are the things that can cause difficulty. I always have the shadows off or at least have created a scene where they are on that I can reference to. Poly count, that's hard especially when something like trees and other vegetation of any quality are part of the model, I guess just good layer management. By scale I mean, if the area being modeled is large problems can occur, but usually that is more clipping than slowdown. Anything that I can learn that serves a better work flow I am interested in.
