Adobe Acrobat will let you print pages as large as 15,000,000 inches by 15,000,000 inches if you can make it work. I have not found out why my Windows 7-64/Acrobat Pro 9(CS5) combination refuses to print larger than 1 x 1,9 meters - at work with Windows XP and the Standard version I have no such problems, but I seem to remember that XP needed a hotfix to enable large print sizes. Thank you for all the helpful answers. I ended up working in LO. Used the pencil tool to draw over the section and filled it in. It's also possible to duplicate the page, render it with vectors then explode the rendering. After that, it's a matter of deleting lines, joining lines and adding fill. A little awkward, but ~~doable, more or less. But if you decide to alter the view... For some reason, moving the filled section away from the plane in SU didn't work when I tried it the first time, but maybe my tinfoil cap needs a new battery. Or antenna. @unknownuser said: @unknownuser said: I'm not a newbie, but I am a moron - and the forum doesn't seem to have a "Moron's Corner" - I've tried to start one. It keeps getting pulled. Mostly cuz I was the only one posting. Well, maybe it's better this way. Morons and genuises can learn from each other. Or something. @pmiller said: Or, if you are careful about consistent inside face orientation (as you should be), just make a style in SU where the inside faces are black. Voila, your section cuts will appear solid black, not hollow. OK, so that's brilliant. Waaaay, waaaaay too simple. @jean lemire said: Hi folks. Another possibility is to use a real cutting surface. Yes, that works, but again, locating the section plane is critical. Anyway, these are good suggestions for future work. Thank you all again! EJE

@genma saotome said: @jaxcoffee said: Has anyone else used this type of resource to model from? It would be interesting to see if any history has been modeled from this type of information, don't you think? Modeling from Sanborn maps is pretty much what I do. I have a San Jose library card which gives me access to the California maps and at various times I've had access to NC, UT, MT, and NY maps as well. I've found that it helps a whole lot if the building is still extant and can be seen in birdeye's view in MS Bing. Sometimes Google street view is clear enough to also be useful but a lot of times the Bing images is good enough. Do you have any question's in particular? Thanks so much for your input Dave. I have sent a PM to you with a question. Thanks again.

Have you tried any of the real 3D trees from the WH and removing the leaves? Most of them are kind of basic (but therefore would also fit what the images show) and generally the leaves are the poorest part actually so without them they might look okay. Also, Alan Fraser posted some example of his work in the CMS forum like this one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=8246 or this one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=20675 where stripping the leaves off will also result in some dead looking trees.

If you are not looking for absolute aerodynamic accuracy (close is good enough), look here.

Hi Jean, Thanks for the model, but I'm afraid I've gotten to far in the model to go back and change the seating. I've gotten the seating done by just offsetting the bottom of the racing surface to the back of the building's rim. Plus, I have a road leading in and out of the track area so that cars and other vehicles can enter. I will gladly put you under the contributers for the track when I upload it to the warehouse.

Every SKP [model] has a 'default' layer - it's called 'Layer0' in English, and the equivalent names in other locales. By default its the active [current] layer and it's visibility is 'on' [you can't switch the active layer's visibility 'off']. So at its simplest every bit of geometry [lines/faces/etc] that you make are on made on 'Layer0'; as are any groups or components that you might also make/add to the SKP. You can make new layers at any time and set their visibility to 'on' or 'off'. You can 'move' objects to any another layer by selecting the object[s] and then using 'Entity Info' or the 'Layer Toolbar' drop-down list. If their new layer is 'off' then the objects will 'disappear' until that layer is turned 'on' again. The on/off settings for layers can be saved with different scene-tabs and thereby you can navigate around you model seeing just what you want - for example if all of the 'roof-level' layers are turned 'off' then you can see the things on the lower-levels more easily... You can reset the 'active layer' to any layer... BUT this is dangerous, as anything you make subsequently will be on that layer and you might not want it to be there. Later when you switch layers on/off things could disappear unexpectedly - including partial geometry - this could still be linked to visible geometry, so if a face is on one layer and its edges are on another layer you could hide the face by switching off its layer but its edges will remain visible - now as these edges then seem 'unfaced' erasing them might seem attractive... BUT the temporarily hidden face on the 'off' layer still relies on these edges for its very existence and so it will erase with them - when you switch that face's layer back on it's not there surprise! So it is recommended that 'raw' geometry is always made on Layer0 [or moved onto it]. It just so much easier to get your head around! Unlike CAD - where layers separate geometry and visibility etc - Sketchup's layers are used only to control their members' visibility. Groups or components placed on different layers will be seen or be hidden as the layers' visibility settings are changed. Exceptions to the rule... Some 'un-grouped' entities like Text or Dimensions will probably be easier to manage if they DO have their own layer[s] which you can turn on/off - I'd still recommend making them on Layer0 initially and moving them onto their own layers later, there are several 'selection' tools to help select them en mass, but if you temporarily switch the 'Text' layer 'off' and highlight Text entities and Layer toolbar them to that layer they disappear as you go on - when there's no Text left it's all been moved over. If you save layer settings with scene-tabs you can easily revert to those layers - this makes it easy to have all layers temporarily 'off' except Text [and the active layer Layer0] and then you can check that you haven't accidentally moved say a Door onto the Text layer ! Another exception is 'color by layer' - personally I never use this but with some imported CAD data it can be useful - then everything takes its material from its layer, so placing stuff onto the right layers becomes important... Don't try this unless you are supremely confident! Another use of layers is 'pseudo-animation', where you have copies of an object, e.g. a component, each on a different layer and in a different location, by swapping their layers' visibility through a series of scenes, so that only one version of the object is seen, it will look as if it is one instance moving as you animate through the various scene-tabs in order - there are several tutorials covering this... Hope this has helped...

I think I may have found a code that fixes this problem. I'm the only one to test this , but it's worked both times tested. Use this code at the start and finish of the model discreption: [88.oin/_likr<gs]

Delivered today ... [image: 0xVC_Table1.jpg] same spirit I think even with though quite different support style. Also made a platform bed base with elephantine legs and demountable undercart ... [image: MkYc_Bed.jpg] and an experiment with kitchen unit units - this one for the back balcony (yet to be plumbed in) ... [image: LzPe_Balconysink.jpg] Note wood door and drawer furniture. Doors have dowels instead of hinges. All is camphorwood with raised grain and clear finish. More experiments in hand including sofa, armchairs, TV trolley, wardrobes and so on.

Thanks Anssi, I did not know that (now back with my ranting). @anssi said: Otherwise the best feature of Office2007 is that the horrible tabs can be collapsed. CAN they? I used to have it for a couple of weeks when it was still downloadable as beta or something. The whole navigation system and stubborn pre-made menu-frustration was that made me uninstall it and never look back.

Ok now I get it. It was a backup file. I had always thought the back up file was the Autosave one, and never checked the difference between the two. You learn something every day and on Sketucation I learn several things each and every day.... Thanks to both of you for clearing that up... I'm glad its not my file or my computer ... Its just me

That's one of a hell "yellow-back" novel (as well as most of his) but since they are rarely translated to any languages (not as if most of them couldbe translated), they will always remain a secret common language between Hungarians...)
