I recently had this problem, except in a much more discreet fashion. If your ever un-sure if fighting is going on, reverse the faces and that should highlight the problem if any. On the matter of the yard lines, I would make everything a component. Such as every yard line and so on. It's a memory and time saver.

Are you sending mouse events to SketchUp? Or do you want to translate gestures into SketchUp commands? If the latter, then you might be able to use the Ruby API or the C++ SDK API?

+1 Jean! The simple icon base of SU is what I find so appealling at the moment. I've worked on AutoCAD and ArchiCAD and there comes a point when you realise you can have so many command options and icons that you forget what you were trying to do in the first place while you try to remember how the command works. (I know first sign of altzeimers). Having started on a drawing board, (you know, pencil & paper), there is a lot to be said for SU's simplicity in maintaining design focus. That's not to say I don't have any plugins, I do, but they are a select few that bring instant productivity gains rather than clogging my menu structure with subtle variations that do a similar thing. Grumpy old man rant over.

If you in tight budged, then there are two free renderer that I would look on; Kerkythea and LuxRender. Kerkythea has a commercial sister Twilight (same engine, but streamlined UI. Limited to 32-bit memory space and SU polygon handling capabilities). LuxRender has a fairly new exporter so may need some maturity, but worth look on (sorry no deeper experience with it). In landscaping one may often need displacement or instanced high poly threes or other entourage. Thea Render can do both, with near unlimited resolution (up to available ram, with Thea 64bit), in reasonable cost. Vue Infinite may be hard to beat with it's EcoSystem, but it may be out of budget. There are quite many topics on rendering programs, many has a favorite one, but best to test those that look interesting. Also, different tasks may give a need to have multiple renderers available.

@unknownuser said: Are you using the COPIES feature to create the copies? Sometimes. I'd prefer to use a direct count of the component, if possible. When I do use the COPIES function, the component I want to count is embedded a few levels in. So I might have: First Level: Main DC Second Level: Component to copy Third Level: Component to count (say 10 copies of this component for every Second Level component) I suppose I could use the COPIES function on the second level, and multiply by the copies of the Third Level component.

No speak enrish, Jim!!! I don't quote get what you're saying. Would the formula string accept such text? It appears DC's recognize '>=' so I've tried this in the copies but with no luck..... Why isn't there a smiley that bangs it's head on the floor!!!!

Pete, go to the kids section of your local IKEA store and look for a little Igloo-like play tent(cheap). The tent is mainly white and translucent. Also look in the art section for some sort of small desk top picture easel. Your will use the easel to support your laminate panel. Get yourself some sort of 10 megapixel digital camera. You can probably find something in the $60 to $100 range. Set up the popup tent, put the easel inside and put your laminate on the easel toward the back of the tent. You can shoot outdoors in the sun or if you can't leave your office set up two identical lamps to either side of the tent. Shoot from a tripod if you can. Here is another little trick:Get a small mirror that you can tape to the exact center of your laminate. Then when you line up your shot look for the image of your camera in the center of the mirror. If you can't see your camera in the mirror or if it is not in the center of the mirror, you camera is not parallel to your subject and the image will be distorted. The other thing to remember is to match the white balance of your camera to the white balance of your light source. See the camera manual for more info. Will do tutorial as time permits.

It also looks like some serious clipping: http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=36261 It can have several reasons (beside OpenGL issues with your video card).

It is known as the Fineline Ink Sketch style. Click on the image for a bigger version. Regards, Ross Thanks! @shura said: Hello Dave, Can you post a screenshot as an example? Maybe it's my english, but I don't fully understand your description. alex I've attached an example of a finished model. What I'm saying is after breaking up the road surface into smaller sections, sometimes when texturing the stripe is aligned to the curve, just as you see here, and in another, similar model, each section has the stripe aligned to the green axis. I was wondering (1) has anyone else noticed this and (2) does anyone know how to force the curve-alignment to happen? As far as my work procedure goes, I usually do a short follow-me from a master profile, texture and position just a few sections of the model, group them, and then copy, paste in place, and then rotate the group from the center point of the road radius, repeating as many times as I need to acheive the length I want. It works well enough. I'm just curious about why SU acts differently with the same sort of problem in different models. [image: 71eW_Clipboard11.jpg]
