I follow you, I'm not very familiar with the solid tools yet, I'll have to explore those. I understand from your guidance that I need to fix the model according to your guidelines before I can use these tools to create a wall thickness. Thank you

Thanks. i haven't had a chance to do this yet, but will be trying it out in the next couple of days. I figured I would have to use sheets of paper as a template (those bits of cardboard would definitely jam up my printer), but thanks for confirming what I thought I had figured out. Cheers

You can also create a circle, the select only some "segments" and resize them with the rescale tool to change the local curvature

hmm.. i think the occurrence at 2:12 is more of a visual glitch caused by the screen recording software then being uploaded/viewed on youtube (as in, i doubt that's how it looks on his screen).. fwiw, here's another video showing him preparing the cuts for layout.. towards the end of the video, he shows his different style settings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2hYAwAVUM .

"Plain" 3d arc/circles imported from DWG/DXF are recognized as such in the SKP, so you can then change their segmentation in Entity Info later [there is also a script to change selected arc/circle's segmentation en mas sin the same way]. If the arc is part of a 3d form it's not changeable.

Well, integrated chipsets do not do any good to SketchUp (or in fact any application that is more than browsing the Internet or writing a Word document).

You could change the default number of sides used to create the circle in the first place. The default value is 24 but you can set it higher. Perhaps you would get a smooth enough curve at 60 or 120 sides although you can go higher. Keep in mind that this will increase the file size possibly very dramatically. Don't increase the number of sides unless you need to. You do have to make the decision on the number of sides before you make the cylinder or otherwise extrude the curve.

I haven't know about the"Purge Unused" function until you showed me. Yes, measure units are the same in the 3D MAX and SU (mm). However, it is a bit strange that the model looks fine when reproduced through my PC with SU [image: g5Wf_SU.JPG]

John, before you get finished with this component, you might want to adjust the edges of that end face. Take a look at the two scenes in the attached file. The guideline runs along the edge at the end of the slope. Notice the edges of the end aren't coplanar. I expect this is a big reason for the triangulation required to get the surface to fill. I fixed it by replacing extending the round part and slicing it off with a cutting plane. Edit: I moved this thread because it isn't a bug. Crescent Wrench 3.skp Crescent Wrench 3 fixed.skp

@davide.skp said: ok, ok, this procedure is correct but how do you do if the building has no walls at right angles? It would be really cool to make the "match photo" starting from some known points detected and visible in the photo. would be an improvement of sk really enjoyed. I would pay gold for a plugin like this! Then go to Tgi3D and buy PhotoScan (or download the 30-day trial first). It will do exactly what you want, and much more

Thanks for the information. Yes indeed in the file menu i can import dxf and dwg files but i have still a problem left. When i for example draw a circle in autocad, save it and then import it in sketchup (even when i have already a component in the scene)the circle apears in the scene but there is no surface created such as when you draw a circle in SU. My intention was to draw complex sections in autocad and then export them to SU to make 3D models of it with for example the push/pull function.

Actually no vacany at my job - I work in a construction company doing some marketing/social networking/ design stuff. I got a degree in traditional and flash animation a few years ago but with the economy I have not been able to work in my field (plus I am getting old and I think it seems odd for a noobie old guy applies for a job ). This is just a little side work from someone I know - a bit nervous since I have done little animation in the past 3 years since I graduated but taking the chance since I need the work. Thanks very much.

@eadoll said: ....... or are the "textured" aerial imagery on the location snapshots unable to display shadows? Both the terrain and the snapshot can display shadows. Open the 'Shadows' window and see if display: on faces is checked. Also play with both available sliders, light and dark. The contrast might be too low to even see the shadows.
