I'm sitting with a strange problem which I've tried solving with 'Move Axis', without success: I've modeled a building on a slope with some of the building below the ground and below the red/green and blue origin. When I turn Show/Hide Shadows on the shadow is cast on the same plane as the Google Earth Snapshot, even if this layer is off. When I turn on the Google Earth Terrain layer some of the shadow is cast on the sloping terrain while the other band of shadow remains on the same plane as the red/green axis. Moving this axis down to the base of the building has no effect on the shadow.

Could one of the experts possibly assist? Many thanks.

This is a normal behaviour of SketchUp. (Changing the axis doesn't have an effect because it changes only the visible axis, not the coordinates of all objects)

You can reduce this disturbing shadow by turning off "Shadows on Ground" in the shadows dialog.

The other option is to move all geometry above the ground plane [z=0] - but if you do that ensure all layers are 'on' and nothing is hidden otherwise you'll probably leave stuff behind...
          PS:
Moving stuff is also not suitable for GE modeling... 😕

If I move all the geometry above the ground plane will that not affect the current position of the building in relation to the slope (Google Earth Terrain)? Unticking 'Shadows on Ground' seemed to do the trick. Many thanks.

If you are modeling for GE, disregard TIG's suggestion - but also do not worry about the Z value.
The x/y plane shown in SU will not affect the model displayed in GE.

This thread has been helpful - but I have been challenged with an adjacent issue regarding shadows and the location terrain/snapshot maps. I am unable to get shadows to appear on the location snapshots/terrain maps when I am in the "photo realistic texture style". That is, I can get shadows to appear on the locations snapshots when I am in the "simple fill style" where faces are simple colors and have no detail. Am I missing something here or are the "textured" aerial imagery on the location snapshots unable to display shadows?

I would appreciate any insight into this. Regards,

Both the terrain and the snapshot can display shadows.
Open the 'Shadows' window and see if display: on faces is checked.
Also play with both available sliders, light and dark. The contrast might be too low to even see the shadows.
