If you are looking for calculations and reports from SketchUp components, you might take a look at SpaceDesign

I have found that the most sure way to make section cuts behave is to make a layer called "sectioncuts" and place your section planes on that layer. Also make a style called "sections on" that has sections active and showing. Now when you make your scene you just make sure the section cut layer is off and use the "section on" stlye. you do this for each scene with the appropriete section plane active and be sure to hit update when its all set. Thanks a lot Chris, it worked like a charm. Do you have more advices for similar situations? Are you aware of any plugin for recreating at least some of the bridging tools you find (for instance) in Max? By the way, thanks for your plugins

thanks for your reply Tig, I suspect you are right about it being a Windows 7 problem. I am writing to a server but I don't understand why it is only happening with Sketchup. I will continue to monitor it.

Similar problems with Logitech drivers here on my WinXP system. To be fair, the support guys there are a helpful bunch, and they did put in a valiant effort, but they were unable to get me fixed up. I've been a trackball user for a long time now (more room on the desk for half-drunk coffee cups and ashtrays, he he!!). The 'Marble Mouse' I have is beautifully smooth to use and it has the extra buttons and (supposedly) driver support to emulate the middle button and scroller. Except that I have had nothing but problems getting it to work due to weird clashes with the driver for my (indispensable!) graphics tablet - so I am stuck with having to constantly switch tools, or get used to using a regular mouse again (oh my poor wrists!).

I am having similar Nvidia driver issues. 285.62 on SLI GTX 580's. SU works fine (but slooow) with hardware acceleration, Fast Feedback unchecked. As soon it is switched back on SU freezes (entire computer) within one or two minutes. I have even tried setting up a custom program control in Nvidia's control panel under 3D settings, adding Sketchup to the programs list and customizing based on other users successful use of Quatro settings. NO LUCK. It is my understanding that Nvidia, at least at one time had been certified for use with Sketchup? Aside from waiting for a new driver, any suggestions?

TIG's method works extremely well. I've used it to create elements for various grilles. I can make a grille of any dimension quite rapidly with just the three components. [image: 5979597868_808f4b6fcc.jpg]

I don't mind the 'harsh' comments at all! Like this i know the problem is at the side of AutoCAD and not at the side of Sketchup!! Thx all! Btw Thomthom, that cleanup works excellent!

I like these. I'm collecting trees to use to try out effects. These have a nice appearance, and although thin, they feel far more real than many of the trees I've seen, at least as rendered in the image in your post. (2 minute pause...) I just downloaded them. They aren't as convincing just in SU, but then I expect orbits would take forever. Real trees have more variation. E.g. NO two trees will have the same branch pattern. Modeling this is hard. You need to pick a species of tree, and take dozens of pictures. I'm still learning SU (I'm a newbie) It would be way cool if these were truly dynamic components. E.g. if I scale the tree, it doesn't just draw the whole thing bigger, but rather, the branches get heavier, and new material is added at the outside. This would also help with the unique aspect. Several people have commented on color. I'll go a step further: Suppose you provided them as models, but created them in 5 layers. Layer 0 Trunk-Branch-twig. Layer 1 Blossoms Layer two Summer foliage. Layer 3. Fall Folliage. Layer 4 Fruit/seeds. Certain things tend to be invariant on a given species of tree: One is twig angle. Some trees have twigs at right angles to the branch. Many have angles of roughly 60 degrees. Most columnar trees (Tower poplar, Swedish aspen, columnar spruce the ONLY genetic difference is the gene that controls this angle. Another is twig spacing, although this tends to vary with light levels. Many plants distribute the radial angle of the side branch on a fibonacci series. (Corn is a good example, where it's really easy to see.) Others will do whorls of branches. Most conifers do this, and it's really obvious when they are young, and is really hard to see when they get older. The ratio of daughter branches to parent is also a common constant, as is the ratio of branch diameter to the distance to the next branch point. You've captured this very well in your trees, and I think to me that is a big part of the appeal. Another is light response. Many shrub willows will send out branches at an angle of about 20 degrees above the horizontal, then as they get out from under the rest of the tree curve up. A third is raggedness. Some trees when you look at them in winter almost look as if someone pruned them to make a nice smooth outline. Others look like a botched haircut. Not all characteristics are invariant within a species. One variety of blue spruce has very even length needles. Another has a 30% variation in length on the same twig. Some spruce have very evenly space branches as they get older. Others have branches that droop at various angles. Many trees have different trunk bark than twig bark. 1 year bark on most poplar is a grey-green. Older bark is pale grey. Trunk bark is dark grey with fissures. Birch twigs are the colour of hershey's chocolate until they are finger thick. Then the white spots spread out and turn the branch paper white with dark markings. Golden willow has yellowish grey branches except for this year's new growth. THAT in winter is schoolbus yellow with orange tips.

@anssi said: I think that your problem is that your subcomponents are trying to reference parameters from their siblings. I understand that parameters can be passed only between grandparent, parent and child. In this case I think the culprit is that the Startstolpe and Endstolpe components are trying to read values from the Panel component. Anssi Thanks, will look in to that!

It looks to be just that everything is a bit too small. SU has problems creating small or really big faces. I scaled it all up by a factor of 10 and it works fine, you can scale down afterwards and the faces will remain. [image: 0z2D_Corners.JPG]

Just as an update to this post, we just released OpenStudio 0.6.0 at the end of December. This builds on 0.5 by adding more HVAC templates and also adds gbXML import, and a number of user scripts. Here is a link to a video on the gbXML import. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E5qCqpe8xk&list=PL54FE3146BF7A2221&index=5&feature=plpp_video We also created a new 101 tutorial series for this release. The old one was very outdated (from 0.3.0). https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL647CC3A5AA51AA6B&feature=plcp Lots of exciting improvements coming in 0.7.0.
