I actually think that you need to get to know SDS aka Artisan : http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=34868&hilit=artisan . Also for a extruding the edge you can use JPP joint push pull : http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=6708. Now depends on how your imagination works. Cheers!

Something like the Lux/Insolation Analysis tool in LightUp? (Scroll down to the bottom of the page.) An example from the LightUp Gallery: [image: image00013.jpg]

HUm... Strange. I cannot reproduce that. Have you tried selecting the objects and then checking entity info if the count is right ? Is Hardware acceleration checked in Preferences - OpenGL ?

I don't think so but I'm perhaps not sure what you mean. sphere geo 20 face-icosahedron-3 of 4 component faces.skp [image: AhkZ_facesintocomponents-11.JPG]

I was a bit misled about the title about Solar Powered Component. I was like an "audio component"? I was looking for information about different types of solar equipment or even wind-powered ones to compliment my recent purchase of wind generator plans.

Ah yes, good textures can easily substitute complex geometry - at least from a distance - with proper bump or especially displacement mapping.

I think the best strategy would be if you started right away and asked specific questions when you get stuck. Start small though and be prepared to start over (so you need not trash too much work). If there is anyting successful, you can always save pieces of your model as components.

I've always thought foot petals would be the trick. Then maybe the whole desk-keyboard moves in and out like airplane controls.

@mitcorb said: Hi, xennon: Have a look at this thread. Maybe some relevance? http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=31947#p281905 Thanks, that's a nice plugin that might be useful. What I'd like to be able to do is enter Long/Lat/Date/Time and have the plugin either (or both) point a face to the sun or show how light from the sun is travelling and intersecting with a chosen face and beyond to the ground plane. This will allow me to orient a window so as to control where and how far the sun penetrates into a room/building. I'm guessing that the plugin might generate construction type lines extending out from the selected face towards the sun and back the other way towards the ground in such a way that I can kinda see the sun's rays in my scene. But i'll certainly be grabbing that plug u linked - looks handy.

No hassle Whaat has provided us with another great plugin http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=23725&hilit=plugin to help with UV mapping. It is a bit of fussing around, but apart from Blender, I am really not aware of any other (freeware) possibility of converting a .skp file into a .nif file.

With 1 000 000 faces you'll have a sluggish model regardless of hardware spec. When I get very large models like that I often export parts into components and work on the smaller parts, then reload into the main large file. Also, if you have vegetation geometry with lots of polygons, either replace them with lighter geometry, or at least put them on a layer you can turn off while modelling.

@jim said: UI.toolbar("Construction Line Tool").show UI.toolbar("Construction Line Tool").hide But even if the plugin is not installed, this method creates a toolbar entry in the View > Toolbars menu. So the problem for a script is knowing which toolbars are in use. You can get a list of native Toolbar names ( UI.toolbar_names) but there is not a good way to get a list of Ruby toolbars. I have a dialog that uses a text file to create a list of installed toolbars and toggle them on/off, but I'm still working on a good way to identify the Ruby toolbar names. Jim, Was wondering if you made any progress with this. It would be great to have a custom toolbar for rubies. For example the BZ Toolbar contains many tools and I only use one of them. It takes up a lot of real estate. Thanks

Thank you Gaieus! I will zoom in and look for leaks. The hull was formed with a curved line on a flat plane and then "lathed" using "follow me" around a circle. Best, Jeff

@tig said: The 'Utility' tools that ship with SUp include 'Create Face' - you need to activate these from the Preferences > Extensions dialog; you then get an item under menu Tools > Utilities. Alternatively there are other tools... Try Plugins Index > 'AddFaces' [TIG] or http://www.smustard.com/script/MakeFaces [note you also need to get 'progressbar.rb' for this tool] thx.
