If you have Install the Bezier SPline by Fredo 6 I believe you must make: Right click on the curve of CurveMaker / Change the nature of the curve ! And then use the Curviloft

Thanks to mac1 and EarthMover for the replies. I read the link Earthmover posted and it concludes Sketchup is not the best CAD to use when making complex fillets. Sketchup is very intuitive though which helps with the creative process, so hopefully new developments are on the way.

What procedure are you using to copy the group to the other model? I'd make that tile a component instead of a group and save it in a local collection. Then it would be available to drag into the roof model.

An individual Model Material has a SaveAs == 1 SKM file.[image: 6n0U_SaveAs.png] But the right-side pop-out menu lets you save everything as a Collection == a folder of SKM files.[image: D3PZ_Collection.png]

This has been discussed recently in another thread... If you make the parts as components I wrote a short block of code to lay additional copies out 'flat' [on their own layer so they are readily set on/off...]. You determine what is 'flat' by changing the axes of a placed component so blue/Z is in the desired 'up' direction of the part when laid down flat.

You can use the Move Tool and move any vertex to an absolute position,[x,y,z],or by a delta amount,<dx,dy,dz>. If the mesh is on a regular grid, my Snap2Grid plugin at my blog might solve the problem.

Thank you. The kirril2008 tool for creating a mesh to points looks interesting, although I'm unsure that a point cloud point is a 'point'...I'll have a go. Certainly a few things worth trying among your suggestions. Thanks for the 'pointer'!

Another way to approach this would be to create an "OFF" scene that records just the layer settings. Turn off all layers in the layer window and update the "OFF" scene. As long as you don't have objects on layer "0", it is now quite quick to select the "Off" scene and then turn on the layer you want. To select everything then just do Ctrl-A. There are a few discussions elsewhere about the merits of moving groups & components from layer "0". Hint: I also have an "On" scene to do the reverse if something goes mising.

See these files: [attachment=0:254czc31]<!-- ia0 -->Progressive volume of a barrel.zip<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:254czc31] Click in sequence on the scenes tabs of the skp file. You can use the Excel file as a start to do the calculation. Just ideas Nice, Quite good. Tks Jean

@TIG : Thanx for the tip this is really helpfull. Btw, there's another question : i can cut the glass with no problem, but the frames consist group inside group (nested group structure). in pro version i can use 'solid' to solidify all frames blocks so later i can subtract with the crack volume, but what if in this case we use 'free' version. To be able to reach all the face to cut out , i have to go one by one of the group and do 'intersect' or other option is to explode everything to get the face level. Is this the right (fastest) way to do it? or maybe there's another better alternate way. Thanx

@tig said: There are plenty of things to snap the green to. A Circle will align to the surface it is hovering over. If that surface is axial it will take the color of the axis or be black otherwise... OR in the absence if a surface it will align to the nearest current axis otherwise. To get it to lock to the [current] 'red' axis you need to orbit so you are looking somewhat along the [current] 'red' axis. When the circle's cursor turns 'red' you know it's on that axis. To lock it to 'red' hold the shift-key. Click on the hip's edge to locate it, it will be made centered on that line. Change its size and segment-count as desired, before you do anything else... Afterwards you are best to Group it - this will avoid it sticking to other existing geometry unexpectedly, while you are changing it later. I moved the circle down [locked in the current blue-axis] because a round ridge-tile is only a partial circle, and wouldn't be centered on the hip-line... Sorted, all understood now. Thanks for that

You will need to use a lot of segments in tour curves to produce 'smoothness' - as Sketchup makes curves of of short lengths of edges. Sketchup's Arcs/Circles can have their segmentation adjusted prior to extruding into 3d forms. The Bezier-tools lets you change the segmentation of other 'un-extruded' types of curves too. If you export as say a 3d DXF then Arcs/Circles will become true CAD Arc/Circles rather than segments, but not so other curve types that are made of 'lines'... But note that a 2d DXF treats all curve types as collections of lines. If you are not planning to extrude into 3d etc... then why not look at one of the free CAD tools [like DraftSight2d or FreeCAD] that have things like true spline tools etc built-in...

I have found some success by rotating the contours up by 45 degrees so that they do not overlap vertically. It unfortunately does not solve all of the cliff problems. I do wish the SU team would investigate what is going on with the Sandbox tools. There seems to be some loss of functionality since 7.1.
