I see you have a solution and you have the pro version. You could also have done this by creating a tube, dragging copies into place, size them and then use the solid tools to create the intersections or even use the old school method of intersect with model and clean up. Just saying as there seems to be a trend around here to look for plugin solutions before thinking about using the native SU tools.

thanks that seemed to do it. Something I was never aware of is that directly opening a model from the warehouse gave me this error and the DC functionality did not work. However when I loaded the same model into my existing model it worked fine. Seems like a significant bug to me. I prefer to open a model by itself and see if it is worth using before I import all the junk layers.

@gaieus said: The terrain (geometrical) resolution is also just as approximate as the snapshot image detailed. In some places, it's okay while it's better in others. Are you sure you are toggling between (flat) snapshot and (3D) terrain though? The overall hill I live on shows, but the mound on my second lot show dead flat. Its just a matter of distance between contour lines. I need to get a smale scale topo map of the area. Or I may try to expand my experiments with 123dCatch to capturing topography.

Yes. If you cannot change the color of a closed group, then double-click on the group to enter "edit" mode. "Select all" and apply the new color. There is no need to explode groups to make any change you want. This is referred to as "entering the group", "editing the group", or "opening" the group. It is a command in the contextual menu when right clicking on a group: "Edit Group" (or you can double-click as mentioned above). Afterwards you can "close" the group by way of the Edit menu or left clicking in open space. If you really want to be able to just paint the whole component without opening it: First edit the component (or group), select all and paint all the DEFAULT color. Thereafter you can change the color without editing the component. For more on colors (or materials) and groups & components: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=94958

Great, but if you ever get tired of renameing and creating layers, get a copy from my blog. All the Google Earth references have been removed.

The mouse is pretty much brand new, but it could be a driver issue......assuming the issue comes back.

Majid, the general advice is not to change the active layer (with the round "radio buttons") to anything but keep it Layer0. You can, of course change the visibility of layers (with the square "checkboxes") any time... Now when you add a new layer, it automatically becomes visible in each scene. This is how SU works by default. Jim has a plugin though which adds a layer that's hidden by default: http://sketchuptips.blogspot.hu/2007/08/add-hidden-layer.html

Thanks Gaieus, This will be my third post then I suppose, hopefully I'll be able to update my email once it's approved. As for a gallery post, maybe I'll do one of those at some point, but for now I'll just attach a file of one of the models I've done. It's one of the USS Enterprise C from Star Trek, and I used one of the plugins form this site to help me with the curved writing on the saucer section Enterprise NCC-1701-C

Your arch arc isn't on an axis - it's slightly off. This is itself mightn't cause an issue, but if you pick points locked axially it could be a problem... Try recreating your arch arcs parallel to the the green/red axes, find the center point and re radially array the 'dowels'...

Under the extensions tab, you can only activate already installed extensions. These extensions are generally plugins written in a simple text format with a file extension *.rb (sometimes *.rbs) referring to the file type " ru by" (the scripting language of SketchUp plugins). Some more complex plugins may contain other file formats, too (like images for toolbar buttons) and are generally placed inside a *.zip archive that you need to unpack to the same place where you would install *.rb files. In SU 8, there is a possibility to rename this *.zip archive to *.rbz (or " Ru By Zip") and directly install the extensions/plugins with this "Install extension" button (i.e. you need not go to your Program files... > ... Plugins directory to manually copy/unpack files there). But you only use that button for these *.rbz files.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up using CorelDraw Essentials X5 which I discovered was pre-installed on my (Aldi) laptop. It worked well. I was able to Copy in Corel and Paste-Special in Word, which is where I actually wanted the data to end up. Even re-sizing in Word still retained crisp lines without any anti-aliasing etc.

All right, I understand now. It seems that you need to turn that "component 3" into a so called "external component" (which you can collapse in the component browser and only display the top level component). Here is a short tutorial I made a while ago. The original purpose was somewhat different but you can also use it for this - although it may take a bit of time to export and re-import every top level component.

Well, it seems to be working now, new colors are going directly to the right folder, and are showing up in SU. Not sure how this came about though. After much fuss and googling, managed to change security permissions back to where they were, which should have meant that the new colors were going to the App folder as they were originally, but like I said, they are going to the folder in the SU program and show up in SU. I really hate it when a problem gets solved but I don't know what solved it. Oh well. Thanks again.

That's the thing though. The color is correct when 2D exported or when using Print Screen. It's just an orange cast when viewing the model in realtime. It's really not too much of a problem it just a bit annoying. I was satisfied with the secondary color of my ship until I saw the color shift. I went ahead and approximated the actual color I wanted in Photoshop the replaced the value in SketchUp with that so now at least when exported it now looks right.

TIG that works excellently. Maybe it seems a small thing but it should make working in this project much better. Gives a perfectly aligned scene for LO. THANKS! Peter
