The square gets smaller as you zoom out because there is a maximum area that you can "grab". You can grab other area by repeating the process and moving the selection box left, right,up or down. The areas should overlap. You can use a tool of mine, Clip or Trim Terrain Mesh to eliminate the overlap.

To process a faces to a 2d or to a 3d model Copy and then flatten one 3d model to a 2d model with scale tool draw rectangle on back plain, useing the move tool, move the left corner, by left click and hold buttom of mouse while dragging the rectangle to front plain, above the flatten 3d high spot. Then turn on xray and make a face to 2d model. Now return face to 3d model with push-pull and paste in place 3d model or vector push-pull witch tranfer flatten 3d detail to 2d model. Right click and used context intersect face to model Cut off ends of the pull face or the 2d rectangle edges. delete 3d flatten model Answer You now made a 2d face or a 3d face suface via 1-6 Now for terrain lines, Answer: draw rectangle on ground plain, use move tool to front left corner, left click hold buttom of mouse while pressing the control key. Now drag the rectangle to top plain. type in the indext input box type /20 enter right click and used context intersect face to model Cut the 2d rectangle plains edges.

Thanks "Box" I went in and looked but did not find anything. however there was a group of guides that i had that had a ridiculously large bounding box around them nested withing the group I was in. i just moved the group of guides, then started a new group of the objects i was resizing -- now the bounding box is where it should be thanks!!!

Referring to other posts, it seems that it is good practice to refer to the parent component literally as (Parent!wantedAttribute) So for shelf#1," =(Parent!Lenx)" instead of "=cub#1!LenX" or for the other "=cub#2!LenX"; works for both without problems, a much better way to go..for reuse. "Re: copies of DC cabinet door not working properly" Jim says..... I also prefer to use the 'Parent' word to reference the parent component. This makes sub-components more interchangeable with other DC's, so you can change-out sub-components more easily. we live, we learn.....

[quote="Jim"]The original author of the DC did not create any user options. What options do you want the DC to have? Thanks Jim for your help. You are right, my issue has worked out, though not with the DC first used, but with another DC which was a breeze. It just was quicker for me to use a DC that allowed customization, instead of working out all the ins and outs of DC's, that hopefully will come with practice and more time spent In the attached jpeg on the LHS is the DC that I customized for use in my model on the RHS. I can see the power of DC's in this instance, like a standard component, DC's too can edited through their attributes while retaining their dynamic behavior, splendid, what an enhancement for parametric modelling, kudos to those who thought this out. Many thanks to you Jim, for your support and prompt responses. I appreciate it. This is what is gr8 about sketchup you dont have to know everything, you can get by and get things done with even working knowledge and what you know. SCF is absolutely fantastic, my compliments to all at SCF for making it such a gr8 place of sharing knowledge and helping each other out. [image: QQul_DC2.jpg]

THanks for your input guys. that profile/rotation thing came to my mind shortly after i posted the above and so i did it. apart from that it is interesting how to solve such issues and it's interesting to know that sketchup has issues with smaller objects. Thanks for that hint @voljanko. Also thanks to the other for pointing out things. I'll try that out.

Gerrit said: "Plugins are a great way to level up SketchUp." They are. But I feel there is more sense in pressing the SU developers to better the bare SU body in terms of efficiency, functionality, stability and overall performance than sitting and expecting people to spend their own time in making great plugins. After all, it's their program. One more word about plugins. I remember that once (in one day precisely) I downloaded I huge bunch of free plugins. As Jean pointed very well, that's the situation when the SU interface does look like CATIA (if most of them are visible of course). But no matter how many plugins you have it seems to me that SU always starts much faster than those monster programs with million functions and several GB in size. After trying them I deleted the most since I realized there are some that repeat some functions of other plugins and some other perform the same function with more reliability and speed. At the moment there are, I think, several plugins with 'make roof' function. Over the same base (face) some of them need one second to produce a desired roof and some of them ask several seconds for the same action and result. I guess it all has to do with the algorithm applied. And you were totally right when you mentioned knowledge needed for this kind of work. And bright mind, I'd add. It was a pleasure having you here again, Gerrit. Come around any time.

Thanks!

@daredevil said: @daredevil said: Same with RAND()... If the formula is the same, the result is the same. @jim said: Here's what I did. 3 identical formulas, 3 different values between 1 and 5. I was intresded with your video : all the opposite to my experience !! So... I tested and tested again, and finally I understand why !!! If you type in uppercase (RAND() or RANDBETWEEN(1,5)) or use the help to insert function (that write it in uppercase), same formulas produce same result. But if you write in lowercase (rand() or randbetween(1,5)) each folmula produce a different result, the random is "realy" random ! If you use mixed case, Rand() produce same result as other Rand(), but different to RaNd() that produce same as other RaNd()... I used to type in uppercase in DC, but now, I will always use lowercase, like in Ruby Thanks Jim for you exemple If anybody was going to provide an answer . . . . it was shure to be SketchUcation. THANKS.

Yep, I agree with Thom and most of the comments here. I have had mine for years and only use it for positioning 'cameras' and for getting the view out of walls/tables/the floor when it gets stuck. It is also really fun in Google Earth!

@nickchun said: Twilight and Thea were developed from Kerkythea (which is free, but takes longer to learn) Materials from Kerkythea can be used in Twilight, so you can develop your own materials in Kerkythea and use them in Twilight. Twilight is well worth the money but if you are really strapped for cash try Kerkythea first. Twilight uses the render engine from Kerkythea, but Thea render has different core and material system (even the developer is same as with Kerkythea). Thea can import Kerkythea scenes, but it does a one way conversion. About twilight renderfarm, there is one beta (that actually is Thea based and uses Kerkythea to Thea conversion) at http://renderact.com/. Possible other Thea render farms may accept Kerkythea XML scenes http://www.thearender.com/cms/index.php/resources/render-farms.html
