    • Advice Rendering Streetscape?

I am accustomed to rendering objects and interiors using Vray for SketchUP (1.49). I have been asked to do a few renderings of a few buildings from the streetscape: cars, foliage, etc. My computer is a bit dated, and I am afraid that this project could just end up crashing my computer - foliage, entourage, etc. I do not have 1.6 beta, so proxies are out of the question 😞

Additionally, none of the buildings on the site have actually been designed - this is intended to be a quick but realistic concept to whet the appetites of investors, developers, etc. so they can have a sense of what 'could be.'

...but the idea of rendering buildings that don't even exist bothers me.

I was hoping some of you could offer advice on how to approach this project? Exterior shots are just not my thing, but this is a good opportunity to learn.

How to efficiently insert foliage, cars, etc., that won't cause my laptop to implode, nice settings for a good exterior scene (I am envisioning a few sunset shots: lights on in windows, streaks of car lights going by, etc.)

    • Vray for SketchUP Sample Scenes?

I was wondering if anyone is aware if any person(s) or company offers sample Vray for SketchUP scenes similar to Evermotion's "Archinteriors" and "Archexteriors" series? They were great for learning and supplementing.

Will this increase performance when working with complex scenes/models?

Control Panel > NVIDIA Control Panel
Manage 3d Settings > Program Settings > Google Sketchup [off dropdown menu]

      Adjust settings there...

You might already have a set saved for Sketchup.exe under the Global Settings tab presets ?

No saved preset, unfortunately, but by turning of antialias, and setting SLI to "single GPU," I seem to have fixed the issue.

      Thanks again, TIG.

You haven't mentioned your Graphics Card.
These often have a 'Control Panel', can you disable the affects it has on individual Applications ?
Can you set it to let the application decide what to do - e.g. in Sketchup's case don't use acceleration...

I am using dual NVidia GTX 670m and a dedicated 9600m

UPDATE: I now remember right clicking desktop, clicking on "nvidia," then under 3d settings, I can bring up SketchUP's settings...

...but after that, I cannot recall which option needs to be changed - nothing says, "hardware acceleration, or "opengl"

Does turning off antialiasing sound right to anyone?

...or is it the SLI? I can switch between Nvidia recommended (which iit is now set on), or "Single GPU," or "Force Alternate Frame Rendering (1)" or "Force Alternate Frame Rendering (2)"

    • URGENT: Disabling Hardware Acceleration?

I accidentally enabled hardware acceleration in Sketchup, which now prevents me from starting Sketchup again (hence, the inability to turn off hardware acceleration through Sketchup settings).

I cannot remember how I disabled it the first time, but am certain it was through Windows - I seem to recall there being a way to enable-disable opengl hardware accelration for each program through Windows? ( I am using Vista, FYI)

I need to resolve this ASAP.

      Thanks in advance.

    • Maps not working for Vray for SketchUP

I downloaded a bunch of free vismat materials for vray for sketchup from the ASGvis website.

When I apply them in my scene, any material that contains a bump map doesn't work - it will either render the object as a black silhouette, or disregard the material, and put the default grey/blue Sketchup material back onto the model. I also noticed that the sketchup material I intended to use as a placeholder for the vray material receives a number after it

...and other times, it just gives me a vague ASGvis error message and won't let me render in vray again unless I cut and paste my sketchup objects into a fresh scene - as if the file is permanently corrupted, even if I try to get rid of all the textures, HDRIs etc. that may have caused the error.

example: when I tell vray to place a rusted iron texture on anything "orange," the orange objects become grey again, and the orange color in the sketchup material dialogue box reads "orange [1]"

Those look great - but I cannot find a total list of models - do you know if it contains vegetables?

Does anyone know where I might be able to find some good vegetable garden plant models...or even pngs. 3D Warehouse just isn't cutting it.

    • Grocery Store Entourage?

This probably belongs in the 'general discussion' section, but I don't have access to it, for some reason.

I am working on a new project for a grocery store chain, and we want to put together some digital imagery for the client.

I was wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to get some entourage for a grocery store? (particularly, a produce section) Things like shelves, (especially of veges and fruits), people shopping, checkout counters, etc.

Probably a long shot, but thanks in advance.
