    • RE: Version Control of Models

      Thanks for the input everyone

@gilles - the archiver plugin you linked to isn't exactly what i was thinking of, but I could see how it could work for me. Best solution so far i think - I'd like to add comments to versions too, but I guess i could modify the script to do that fairly easily

@Jeff - I have a Mac, but I haven't seen versions before. Integration with that would be great

@rRich - Currently, I just save everything directly to my dropbox folder. Is that what the plugin you linked to does too?

    • Version Control of Models

Just wondering how people generally approach version control with Sketchup...

I currently save my models in Dropbox, which at least means I always have the latest version, no matter where I'm working. However, I was thinking it would be nice to start using Subversion or CVS to maintain a history of changes to models.

I had a look around, but I can't find a Sketchup plugin that directly integrates with existing version control systems, which would be an ideal world scenario.

The next best thing I guess is to manually commit models to version control, at the same time as I save a model. Or maybe it would be possible to write a plugin which modifies the default Save behaviour, and allows the model to be committed to version control.

Do any of you guys do anything like this? If so, do you have a setup, that you're particularly happy with?

      Cheers,
      Dave

    • RE: Change Materials Folder Location or Open Collection on OSX

Hmmm....seems there's a difference between OSX and Windows sketchup. On OSX, I have a colors dialog rather than a materials dialog, and it doesn't have this option.

    • Change Materials Folder Location or Open Collection on OSX

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the Materials folders location, or to define additional materials folders?

I'd like to have a materials folder within my Dropbox folder, but i'm not sure if that's possible.

      Thanks in Advance,
      Dave Moore

Thx for the advice Thom πŸ˜„

I renamed the file as you suggested. I didn't actually realize that you can install extension like that, so glad to have learned something new.

About the other tip with the explode arguments - the arguments don't seem to be documented in the Sketchup Ruby API docs. Is there somewhere I can see more complete documentation?

    • [Plugin] Projection Builder

      Description
Builds a top, front and side projection from a model and arranges them onto a single plane for easy dimensioning and printing. The current version of the plugin only builds the projection from edges, not on groups/components. This means that groups need to be exploded before a projection can be built. Typically, I use my "Recursive Explode" plugin which I also uploaded to explode all groups and subgroups before creating a projection.

      Installation
The zip file attatched should be unzipped into the plugins directory

      How to Use
Simply select something, and then choose the Tools > Build Projection menu option.

      Cheers,
      Dave

    • [Plugin] Recursive Explode

      Description
A simple plugin, that takes the current selection and recursively explodes all the groups so you're just left with edges and faces.

      Installation
      Standard .rbz installation procedure http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=38583

      How to Use
Simply select something, and then choose the Tools > Explode Recursively menu option.

      Cheers,
      Dave
