    • RE: Cannot reset file association after SU 2013 install

      @mgfranz said:

I currently run SU Pro 8, I wanted to trial run SU 2013, my OS is Win 7 64. By default my .skp files are all associated with SU 2013, but I want to change the default program to SU 8 however no matter what I try to do they always open with 2013. I have done the Open>Default Program route, I have gone through the registry and changed the default path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8, but when I double click on a .skp file it still opens with 2013. When I right click and try to change the Open With>Browse> and select Google 8/SketchUp.exe the only option I get it 2013.

So the only way I can open a .skp in SU 8 right now is to open the SU 8 program from the Desktop or Start and manually locate the file I want to open, is there a way to change the path in Win 7 or do I have to just uninstall 2013?

I have faced the same problem and have also looked for a solution here before. As there was no simple fix. I uninstalled the 2013 version.

Only to find out today while reinstalling SU 2013 that during installation of SU 2013 if you clear the check boxes for creating new file associations in Windows for skp files, then windows lets sketchup 8 remain as the default application for skp files.

Try that, it is so far working for me.
Hope it works for you as well

    • RE: Editing a DC.. need help

[quote="Jim"]The original author of the DC did not create any user options. What options do you want the DC to have?

Thanks Jim for your help. You are right, my issue has worked out, though not with the DC first used, but with another DC which was a breeze. β˜€

It just was quicker for me to use a DC that allowed customization, instead of working out all the ins and outs of DC's, that hopefully will come with practice and more time spent

In the attached jpeg on the LHS is the DC that I customized for use in my model on the RHS.

I can see the power of DC's in this instance, like a standard component, DC's too can edited through their attributes while retaining their dynamic behavior, splendid, what an enhancement for parametric modelling, kudos to those who thought this out. πŸ‘

Many thanks to you Jim, for your support and prompt responses. I appreciate it.

This is what is gr8 about sketchup you dont have to know everything, you can get by and get things done with even working knowledge and what you know.

SCF is absolutely fantastic, my compliments to all at SCF for making it such a gr8 place of sharing knowledge and helping each other out. πŸ‘ πŸ˜„

The Component Options dialog shows the options for the currently selected DC. In the image you posted, the DC is not selected. Can you see the DC options when you select the DC?

The DC opens and closes the door on a single click, however does ot display any option when selected as shown the attached jpeg.

Thanks for ur time and attention.

    • Editing a DC.. need help

As a total newbie to DC, to keep things simple, I am trying to edit a DC from 3DWH on the below link

      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=91b4eacb5ed170c1c6764a7c7c91775b&prevstart=0

I have seen the video tutes on DC's and am aware of the basics, but want to practice on simpler DC's first.

So, I have checked to see if there are multi layers, or nested groups/components in this DC which may require consideration before editing, but have found none. It seems like a straight forward DC.

However, as I try and edit it, the DC no longer remains a DC after editing. After say I change material to metal on the frame, it stops responding to the click function as before.

If i could succeed in editing it and having it as DC, I could use it in my model. I wish to add a door frame and edit the material to Aluminum and make it half glazed as well. That is my objective.

Any help is appreciated and thanked for in advance,

      Regards,
      Jpin

    • RE: Invisible Toolbars????

Strangely enough, my views toolbar is nowhere to be seen. I was trying to place it around when it just disappeared!

I can still see the tick in View -> toolbars -> views, but no matter I cant seem to get it back.

can only get the job done from camera -> standard views.

I have not installed any plugins etc.

Any help or suggestion, much appreciated in advance.
