Yes, you can do it in in Pro OR Make... But you need to install the STL import/export Extension. Available from the Extension-WareHouse... https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchup-stl There are some additional 'Solid' tools only in Pro, but you can do all of their operations 'manually' in Make if you need to - it just takes time and thought... There are also some Plugins which mimic some of these 'Boolean' operations, which you might find helpful... There are many threads in the SCF forums discussing the many various aspects of 3d-printing. You will need to make your object a 'solid' - so learn how to check for and effect 'solidity' in groups/components. Something else to keep in mind is the 'size' of your object. SketchUp's built-in tolerance is 1/1000". This is fine for all things relating to buildings, but once you go down to tiny geometry in small objects [as you might want to 3d-print] it can result in missing tiny edges and facets in some operations, destroying its 'solidity' [SketchUp assumes that the two ends of an edge closer that 1/1000" are coincident are]. These are processes like FollowMe, Intersecting and similar work by 3rd party scripts where potentially tiny facets could be created/attempted. There are well tried workarounds - e.g. making the object a component, scaling a copy of it x1000 and doing the risky operations inside that. Those changes will also replicate OK in the smaller version: delete the blown-up version when you are done. Learn to use the forums' Search tools - there are dozens of helpful posts...

Thanks, I don't know why I was getting an error with them then. However, I found my 2018 license details in my junk mail, so in switching to 2018, it's all fine again.

Extrude Edges tools by TIG (despite the name it's useful for curvated surface! ) Ferrari idem Soap Skin Bubble idem What learn ? All! They are complementary! PS If you look the avatar of Fredo6 you will see a Sketchup boat ! So take Fredo's plugins first! [image: file.php?avatar=133_1370445374.png]

@sdmitch said: Are we talking about actual fixed length component beams or just simple edges? If it is just two edges as depicted in your post, I think I can help you. Thanks for your response. I am looking at SolveSpace, which may be just the tool I'm looking for. If it doesn't work, I will contact you and see if you can hemp me. Thanks again.
  • What is there to know about 3D Polylines?

ThomThom wrote in "forum.sketchup.com":"......but the API doesn't provide any control over them. @tyler_miller - got the history behind this oddball of an entity?" Is there any news yet? Some related questions that may expand the use of these 3D Polylines: Can edges be converted into (i.e replaced by) components containing one single edge per component. One "single edge" component with scaled versions replacing all the edges in a selection. Next step would be to replace this component (and all its scaled instances by a "single segment" 3D Polyline component, scaled likewise per edge component. This component with standard length, say 1m is already an "In Model" component. This would allow replacing a wireframe by a 3D Polyline version that doesn't interfere with the inferencing engine and serves as a visual reference. Some examples: -1) visual marks in a model, easy to spot (whether accompanied by a guide point or not) each with its own color, even with edges colored all the same. -2) visual referens of axes in a different color (for color blind people) -3) symbols that are visible in the model but don't interfere with what you are modeling (no snap to) (Mike Lucey at SketchUcation once mentioned working on symbols, using edges and faces. But the cursor keeps snapping to real geometry). example: 2D vegetation. -4) accurately dimensioned (scalable) visible circle or curve, not interfering the inferencing engine. -5) though limited, two styled in the model, say straight 3D polylines plus a sketchy style. -6) maybe some other options. If replacing edges for "single segmented" 3D Polylines through plugins as mentioned above isn't possible, -1) trough -5) is still possible but very laborious, some more than others. edited: -6) completely transparent hatches opposed to faces textured with hatches. -7) (3D)text, visible though not in the way when modeling.

I suppose someone knows why. I expect it has to do with the toolbar manager they use. I'd take this over the old one any day. It's easy enough to make your own toolbars, anyway.

@dave r said: Still struggling with those screwed up axes from your poorly created CAD file, huh? Yeah, I was running out of time. It was too late to make a fresh cad file with all the axes correct and then do Sketchupping again. That's why I was desperate for the plugin. But phew..I'm done with the work. I made a sketchup model for a 32 acre site which was the largest one I've ever worked upon. The funny part is that I never cared about axes in Autocad for 8 years or so (the same time I've been working with sketchup). And things went really well in sketchup. But now in 2014-15 I faced this really big trouble.

Start off by clearing everything, by using: model = Sketchup.active_model model.entities.clear! then purge the model using: model.definitions.purge_unused model.active_layer=model.layers[0]; model.layers.purge_unused model.materials.current=nil; model.materials.purge_unused model.styles.purge_unused ds = model.attribute_dictionaries; ds.to_a.each{|d| ds.delete(d) } if ds Now you have an empty SKP. Try doing the import AND export within a model.start_operation(...) block, BUT do not ' commit' it, rather you need to ' abort' it after each one. That way the import happens, the export happens but the changes to the model are undone by each ' abort'. The exported file is NOT undone by the ' abort' !

Sorry, I have no experience with the exporter and how it reacts to textures.

Read the WebDialog pages in the API... There are also many freely available scripts in the PluginStore etc, using WebDialogs, where you can read the RB, HTML and JS etc, to see the 'callback' code format...

I've followed the steps to correct the Square and achieved the same result as you! I really appreciate your advice on approaching and solving the problem. I'm going to try with the Oval at a later date. I'm quickly learning that for smaller sized objects to design them on a much larger scale first and scale them own to meet the need. For whatever reason, I'm reading a lot of things about how sketchup doesn't deal with things on the small scale as effectively. Thanks cotty!
